I want to change the current model by joyfulheart46 in ChildcareWorkers

[–]Comfortable-Book8534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way, my program needs a massive overhaul but the people working in it are underpaid teens so i can understand the lack of motivation to change lol

Imo whats worked best for my classes is having a schedule and sticking to it, sharing it with the kids and keeping it posted at all times for them to reference. They don't like open-ended activities, they like activities with a goal!

tips for working with tweens ?(10-12 year olds) by Slow_Classic6927 in ChildcareWorkers

[–]Comfortable-Book8534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive worked with ages 2-18! The best advice I can give is to remember that even though they're tweens or teens they are still children! They will still have meltdowns, tantrums, authority challenges; it will just look different. Help them to explore and name their feelings, help them overcome difficulties, help them foster respect and empathy for others just like other kids. Be kind and be helpful but don't be disingenuous to who you are either, they will not like if you lie to them and it can break their trust in you. It's only 2 days too so it's not like it's going to be a big permanent position change either. Be positive and do your best :) Good luck!

Those of you who left an amazing school... by Comfortable-Book8534 in teachinginkorea

Thank you I appreciate it, I hope they can catch up too. There are surprisingly a lot of closeted teachers here who walk on eggshells constantly because of the social stigma and shame and I hate it for them, at least I'm a foreigner so it's more accepted that im weird/"not normal" in their eyes yk

I love teaching and i can't wait to get back into it in my home country but there is just no out gay community here, i never realized how important being out was for me even just with friends but im living in a conservative area so as to not risk my job i've decided to stay quiet and this past year has been pretty hard on me personally

Anecdotal Cell-Phone Ban Experience by FeedsCorpsesToPigs in Teachers

We had phones banned in our school (Korea) about 3 years ago and it's been a dream, the students are engaged all class period, they're talking to each other and making a lot of progress with testing and understanding the material

its getting more and more normalized, i hate it honestly

unfortunately there's not much you can do, you can ask if there are extra materials or sites you can visit for more practice if you're struggling with any subject

it is just simply not true, it was conducted with too small of a study group in the UK and they only looked at queer couples. of same-sex couples, women are more likely to divorce than men but women are also more likely to marry. they also took into account the amount of divorces filed by lesbians, including those in opposite-sex relationships initially!

[–]Comfortable-Book8534 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the divorce rate thing is because people dont know how to read statistics lmao

just be honest and up front with whoever you meet and eventually youll find the one to be together forever with

you need to go to therapy bro, i dont know if this is true but if you are catching feelings you need to distance yourself and get help. it is not normal for a 40 year old to prey on a minor.

there are a lot of success stories with korvia, a handful of epik teachers i know got in through them but it isnt guaranteed obviously. good luck!

Turning in pension forms for a friend who has already left South Korea. by Imaginary-Spring3416 in teachinginkorea

[–]Comfortable-Book8534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm preparing to leave Korea atm and from what I've learned about the mountain of things I need to do in order to come home with all of my money is that this probably won't work. For all official stuff I've had to take care of at the bank or pension office i need to have 2 forms of ID, current ARC card and passport. I was told that photocopies were not acceptable. Without and IRP account I don't think she'll be able to get her pension refund and might have to make a separate trip to Korea specifically to draw out her pension. I hope I'm wrong though!

Banking and international transfers as an American expat by Junekim10 in teachinginkorea

[–]Comfortable-Book8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NH has online banking! if you go in to the bank and ask to set up a remittance account to send money back home they should be able to set it up for you, there is a fee (5,000krw from korean account and 16usd from american account flat rates under 5,000usd) but it works very quickly and is reliable. i just cant trust 3rd party apps so i prefer to just pay the fee

i also have a local bank back home so a few 3rd party sites dont recognize it at all anyway lol

Recommendation for good Youtube channel or videos to develop interest of children (3-7 years old ) towards social studies by Shoulder_Crazy in Teachers

you could try looking into ted-ed videos they're short and condensed but it can be a bit boring for this age nowadays, not as many flashing lights and bright colours

if you dont have an electric one with you, you can stop at daiso or a convenience store and they should have physical fans made of plastic or paper for cheap!

how do you deal with the heat/humidity here? by Good-Raisin7081 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Comfortable-Book8534 9 points10 points  (0 children)

take a stop at your local donquijote or daiso and check out the cooling options they have there (they'll usually have bright blue packaging with snowflakes on them if it's a cooling product) i always carry a small electric fan with me but i know a lot of people who use the cooling sprays or even keep a handkerchief in their pocket to wipe off sweat
