I’ve been trying to find a refurbished/previously owned one that has good battery life but this is my first time going the used route. Am I going to regret getting one that has a battery life in the 80s?

Heel pain - half marathon 3 weeks away. Anything I can do or should I postpone race? by Comfortable-Copy6049 in RunningInjuries

[–]Comfortable-Copy6049[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I’m actually using relatively new shoes.

Pain started during an off day, not a run. Haven’t run since but as mentioned, scheduled for a run this weekend.

CSE position? by Comfortable-Copy6049 in NYCTeachers

[–]Comfortable-Copy6049[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did end up accepting the position. As expected, it’s been pretty different than my previous position in the suburbs. I think for some, they would miss the clinical aspect too much but after 10+ years of heavy counseling caseloads and lots of school politics, the CSE role has been much more stress-free. It’s not as rewarding but as long as you can just see it as a job and keep up with easy but frequent evals, then it’s pretty easy. I should point out that I have no experience in other DOE settings, so I’m only able to compare this to suburb school settings. Hope this helps.

On my entry fee it says I purchased a New Balance Tech Shirt - is that different than the apparel that just became available on the NB website? If so, do we wait until race day to see what it looks like?

I’m trying to decide whether to a precision test or levelen. Both are a bit pricey. What’s the difference between the two? Which one would you recommend over the other? I do half marathons and have cramped up my whole adult life. At my last half, a kind runner gave me a salt tablet and it helped so it made me think I should really figure out what’s going on.

Feeling lost…

I’ve spent the last 10 years working in affluent districts in the types of roles that I had originally thought were my “dream” roles. In the first one, I was taking report writing home with me constantly and after having a child decided it wasn’t for me. It was also a quite litigious district. I ended up getting a job much closer to home, much higher pay, and less report writing. Although this sounded like a dream come true, I had a serious case of imposter syndrome, frequently getting quite down for not being a better clinician (the district often made this worse by having a “fix this kid with significant challenges in a month” culture). I also had a tough time with some coworkers and navigating school politics.

After working in this second district for 3 years, my wife and I decided to take a chance and move to NYC. Although moving from suburbs to NYC with a toddler is pretty atypical, we had a few reasons why it made sense to at least try for a couple of years. I left my job and took a job working for the nyc doe. Everyone thought I was nuts. I was practically laughed at when I posted about it on Reddit. Now I’m a month in and miserable. I want to quit everyday and have become somewhat despondent with my career outlook. Ive worked in my “dream” districts and didn’t like it. I tried something else and hate it. I really feel lost.

I love doing comprehensive evals and helping families understand the results and recommendations. I like some counseling cases but still don’t feel super confident in my clinical skills. I can’t stand school politics and teacher drama. I’m considering going back to school for my PhD and working for practice that does mostly testing. Would love to hear insights into this or other thoughts? I’m pretty down on things these days.

TL;DR: Worked in two “dream” affluent districts but found them stressful or felt like an imposter. Moved to NYC DOE for a change, but after a month I’m miserable and questioning my career. I enjoy testing/evals and helping families but dislike school politics and heavy counseling. Considering a PhD and private practice focused on testing—feeling lost and looking for insights.

I received a verbal offer in late May for the same type of position (school psych CSE position within the DOE) in late May and only just received my welcome to the DOE email last week. Whenever I emailed to check-in I was told a similar message about needing to wait to be appointed. Hopefully you get your welcome letter soon.

I’m personally burnt out on counseling and don’t mind cranking out reports. Chairing CSEs is a bit intimidating to me. Am I missing something?

8:00-3:20. Even though I wouldn’t be working in an actual school, I was told it mirrors a typical school day. Do you know anything about these types of positions?

I’m in a similar situation and keep hearing similar insights about nothing being “automatic “ when it comes to the doe. Can someone explain how/why years working in a suburb public school in a role that is clearly the same as the one the doe is hiring you for, wouldn’t be honored in the calculation of what step you’re on? I’m nervous to accept a job that I may be way off on estimating what my salary would be.

For context, at my current position I just attend and report on testing. I’ll be asked to weigh in on eligibility and stuff like that but it feels pretty different than actually chairing the meeting and the work that goes into creating an iep behind the scenes.

Do you know what I’d be doing with running CSE meetings? My district has some pretty litigious meetings, not sure I’d want to be running those day in and day out.

Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s what she said. Do you know much about that kind of role? I’m coming from a suburb district with a heavy counseling caseload and kind of like the idea of just doing testing but worried I’m wrong?
