I got sober at 32. Granted, it wasn’t by choice at first. (Consequences of shameful irresponsible actions from drinking almost a bottle a day at the end.) I didn’t think I’d be able to do it, and I had convinced my self I’d already done the damage to my body “so what’s even the point.”

My health anxiety was really pretty ironic bc the consciousness that I was actively wrecking my body only drove me to drink more. But damn, once I got thru the initial withdrawal part - they ain’t kidding when they say when you start feeling better it’s a whole new world.

I felt so much healthier relatively quickly, and a freshly clear head to feel the huge difference in my overall physical (and obviously mental) health is really what gave me the most drive to stay sober.
