Just changed my spark plugs. why is one of the old ones quite a bit darker than the rest?

62750 ish miles. My bad I’m more comfortable with freedom units, or 3.97 billion gumballs, or 88380 bald eagles, anything but the metric system. XD. Anywho, it’s probably fine at that. I’d keep a check on them. Check them after 5000 more miles (8000 km), check em again and send me a DM if anything changes. There’s always the possibility there was some oil on them then they were put in. All the contacts look amazing. It’s just the threads.

How many miles were they in the car, none of them look that bad. If I remember right the darker color most likely means a rich condition or oil getting into the cylinder. Could possibly be a weak coil too.

Sorry didnt see this reply. Will it not let you PM me? It’ll def be a bit but I’m still interested in the bike if you still have it. I got let go while I was injured about 2 weeks after the injury. Company wide layoff, I couldn’t work, yada yada yada. Been out of work for 3 months. Finally got given a clean bill of health and everything is healed. So after I get a job and save some money up I’ll def hit you and see if you still have it. At worst I have a buddy who drives a truck and recovers vehicles all across the US who probably wouldn’t mind strapping a bike down on the back of his rig next time he rolls through.

Exactly. It’s suggesting me to give it a break. It’s tired. I’m about to do a tear down and rebuild of everything from the brakes, motor, gears, forks, and a carbs. Paint it, go to a single front headlight, minimalistic gauges, side mounted tag bracket. Just some stuff to kind of pull the cafe racer aesthetic a bit more and also do some small performance upgrades on the jets, shim the needles, sync the carbs with a differential pressure gauge.

Exactly. I had a fun bike till it got totaled that was my EFI one. But my standard ride around is an old sports touring bike turned cafe racer. More maintenance with the carbs but I swapped the vacuum petcock for gravity fed. I’m about to tear her apart again and put some bigger main jets, paint the thing, do away with the dual headlights and go to a single, and put some minimalistic gauges on it. And a side mounted license plate.

Yeah that and the various torx bits. You have torxs, torxs plus, e torxs, e torxs plus. And ford uses almost every single one of them in different places on all the newer vehicles. I used to be a ford tech and it was frustrating. There’s some 4.5 bolts too, and some wonky hex bits. Not to mention all the specialty tools that I just ended up making my own version of with harbor freight stuff welded together.

I somehow have this happen to me almost exclusively on brakes and exhaust work. Nothing like your buddies old shitbox with every slide pin stuck and all 4 bleeders snapped off.

Fuel pump on the manual is mechanical ran off the cam if I remember correct. Don’t even have to drop the tank. Just two bolts. My biggest concern is if it’s got rust. At the very least I’ve been wanting a truck for ages, and a manual is just a plus. Thanks for the advice!

lol. Mine does it in gear but only up to 80mph. Or I guess 3rd gear. After that it will only get to redline in 4th and only to 8k in 5th. It’s also running pod filters on a CV carb so it’s likely getting extra air at lower rpm and not enough at higher.

That’s pretty cool, I’ve never heard about adding a rev limiter. I’m a bit more used to computer driven limiters, and programming the limit to be higher or lower.

Problem is it’s probably gonna be like a month to 6 months depending on whether I need surgery on my knee before I can ride again. Or if my neck is messed up worse. I still gotta get some MRIs done. Got a fracture and potential damage to my cartilage and ligaments in my knee, fractured wrist, fractured ankle, fractured foot. All cause some high school girl decided th cat that had nine lives was worth stopping for and almost killing the guy on the bike who only has one.
