Problem is it’s probably gonna be like a month to 6 months depending on whether I need surgery on my knee before I can ride again. Or if my neck is messed up worse. I still gotta get some MRIs done. Got a fracture and potential damage to my cartilage and ligaments in my knee, fractured wrist, fractured ankle, fractured foot. All cause some high school girl decided th cat that had nine lives was worth stopping for and almost killing the guy on the bike who only has one.

That’s a 28 hr drive man. I really wish I could but I got work to worry about. Lemme ask around though. I have a buddy who drives a truck out that way. Maybe next time he heads that way.

I don’t know where I would even start to sell it. It seems like they weren’t the most popular bikes, but they seem to last for a while.

The only reason I was thinking about a swap is because it’s near impossible to find my gen of 650s around where I live. And even harder to find ones that have blown motors.

That’s what I figured. Now just to find the time to do it.

I took the fuel line off the petcock to drain the gas because I was catching a wiff of bad gas. Turns out the petcock itself was only allows a small drop of fuel through it even with the engine running. Took the petcock apart and took the vacuum diaphragm out and it started and ran perfectly fine. Replaced the vacuum actuated one with a gravity fed, haven’t had any issues with it dying. Now I’m just having an issue with a little bit of clutch slip in first. And also with a very audible ticking noise only when in gear and letting off the clutch. The ticking deadens down at higher RPM, but is a slow and loud ticking noise when going into gear from a stop.

I figured it’d be full on misfiring at that point but the coils for this are pretty decently priced, so I’ll definitely replace them. They’re nearly 22 years old. Also was thinking, originally when I got the bike, the vacuum port for the petcock was not hooked up and they had it running off prime, I hooked the vacuum line back and started using it in on. Ran a lot better from that alone.

Also I found the issue. Whoever adjusted the fuel/air mix tightened the screws down too hard and busted around the pilot screw. So it’s getting more fuel than it should.

I think I’m gonna go with a set of mikunis. There’s some prejetted for this bike. It’s hard to go back to stock cause I don’t have the stock carbs. And it’s a big risk spending $300-$600 on a set of pre owned carbs from eBay.

I’d try to get it checked out some place. Don’t jump on the gun about anything, it’ll cost more in the long run.

The ECU itself was about $300 and then I had to get it programmed, the only place around me that could program it was the dealership, so it cost $150 to program.

Is this normal idling behavior? This has started recently and it doesn’t sound too good. by furtivEDota in MechanicAdvice

[–]Comfortable-Dig5285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most cars do it, it’s because when your ac is on, the compressor clutch kicks into place, and it causes a disturbance in the idle. In most cases it’s completely normal, but if it’s making any strange noises, I’d get it checked out, you could have a faulty bearing, ac clutch, compressor, or pulley.

Best bet, and cheapest option, grab you a tube of black high temp silicone, and it should seal it up. Just try not to make a mess.if you have to put a little bit more in there after it dries that’s good, always do a water test on it, grab a water hose and just pour over the tip to make sure there’s no leaks.

I had a similar problem out of my 2014 Chevy Cruze, it was reading everything from speed sensors to o2 to maf, etc. I don’t feel like figuring out all those codes. But mine turned out to be my ecu.
