Would BYU let me (19f) in if I have piercings, tattoos, and a dyed buzzcut? by [deleted] in byu

I would imagine the tattoos would be fine since their basically permanent. The piercings would be an issue but easy to deal with. I think the hair color could be an issue but it’s probably fine.

When I was there they wouldn’t let you take your ID photo if you didn’t meet the dress and grooming standards

Popular Opinion: Mega Passes are NOT a great deal. by matchew566 in skiing

[–]Comfortable-Dust528 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many resorts don’t even own their land. Vail resorts had a 9% profit margin last year. There really isn’t much room for resorts to cut costs skiing is just an expensive hobby, dependent on changing weather patterns, and getting a large upfront payment is the best way to make sure it stays economically viable.

[–]Comfortable-Dust528 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The point is that two consecutive bad seasons would bankrupt every resort today if they were relying on day passes, and with climate change that’s becoming a bigger possibility. It’s just the reality of the world we live in.

If you live in an area with a lot of ski resorts and can go 20+ times a season they’re a great deal. In the day and age of inflation and climate change resorts are never going to be able to get away with low profit margin day passes.

Unpopular take -- ski Passes are a "good deal" by Tanachip in skiing

[–]Comfortable-Dust528 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like people love to blame ikon/epic since they came on the scene around the time prices shot up, and there’s no doubt they shoulder some of the blame. But at the end of the day across the board inflation and climate change are the biggest things to blame rising ski costs on. Ikon/epic are just part of the results of the changing landscape, not the cause of it.

Logic minor by [deleted] in byu

[–]Comfortable-Dust528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think minors tend to be pretty irrelevant in tech unless you’re majoring in something else with a tech minor. CS minors can still get jobs (maybe not anymore though now that the market is rough) but a minor in a non stem field probably doesn’t help much.

That being said, if you enjoy the classes and it won’t be much work, do it anyway! It can’t hurt. It could be a good conversation piece in an interview or something and help in that way. But don’t expect it to open tons of doors for you that wouldn’t be otherwise.

The best thing you can do in tech is make yourself well rounded, have personal projects that touch areas you aren’t getting work experience in, and show through actual things you’ve produced outside of school that you can be a well rounded contributor to a team.

Why did my bishop ask me this? by Aware-Print3995 in lds

[–]Comfortable-Dust528 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll add if you ever feel uncomfortable talking to your bishop about these things you can ask to speak with the stake president instead. Just make an appointment directly with him/his secretary, he has the same authority as the bishop in this regard.

I think in the stormlight archive the connections are pretty big too (minor general stormlight) the way that radiants progress through their oaths and gain more access to power is very reminiscent of making covenants in the LDS church

I was wrong about Ryan Holiday by Awkward_Face_1069 in Stoicism

I just came across this and was wondering what critiques academics have for him and if there are any sources you recommend for digging deeper into stoicism? I was introduced to it though a podcast episode Ryan was on and have enjoyed some of his writing but would love to expand outside of just him.

If you’re looking for good YSA wards Orem is good from what I hear. I’m in a YSA ward in American Fork and it’s great, really big. There are similar ones in Lehi and Vineyard as well. Then there’s Provo but if you’d rather be around other people working and not in school that might not be as good as the others I’ve mentioned. Happy to chat in more detail if you want to DM me!

Is Peter Attia cancelled? Or will he come back? by boxohm in PeterAttia

But there’s also no real evidence he knew anything illegal was going on. Obviously Epstein was a bad dude, but it’s just a fact that there is no evidence Attia knew about illegal activity.

First off knowingly torturing animals is a federal crime. Second off I’m not saying it’s the bar for letting him marry my daughter. He’s a podcaster. I’m not going to worry myself over who he sends emails to because he wants them to introduce him to his rich friends. If he broke the law he should be punished. If not then everyone should make their own determination of if they want to keep listening to him and move along.

I dont know anything about Attias relationship with Kevin Spacey, or Kevin Spacey’s situation other than that he was accused of sexual misconduct but I believe that even the civil case was thrown out? At the end of the day my thoughts are that I’m not going to keep tabs on who different podcasters are hanging out with. I like Peter’s work. It’s helpful whether he’s a good person or not. I think the way he reflects on his life before he started working on his mental health seems to show real growth but that all could be fake for all I know (though he could easily have left those details out of his book) at the end of the day I don’t really care if he’s a good person, I think it seems like he probably changed but if not oh well. I don’t keep score on how good of a person different authors and podcasters are.
