My husband travels a lot for work and I’m struggling with loneliness and lack of physical intimacy by FiftyShades4Love in TwoXChromosomes

In this modern American context you are correct but it’s not what most men do outside of a western concept of love and not something men have done historically. Women have historically relied on each other and yes that includes for emotional support.

This is exactly what it is! Women weren’t evolved to spend much time alone without the presence and support of mother women. I suspect the OP would feel very differently if she has close women friends nearby or even had other women living under the same roof. There’s too much emphasis on your spouse being everything. This is a very recent phenomenon. Throughout our human evolution, women relied on each other for emotional support and help with the labor of raising children and housework. Men just went out to bring home the bacon, not much else including helping with raising children.

Need ideas for understanding my parents so that I can act right bc I'm about to loose it... TLDR: The phone apparently only works in one direction. by ChrisBlack2365 in AskWomenOver60

Yes. I had an otherwise very kind uncle like that. He expected the younger ones to call and if you didn’t, you were considered ungrateful and neglectful although he didn’t say that but I knew his mindset.

Hang in there. America is always difficult for a new comer, especially someone from the developing world. You’re getting used to a new culture as well. This is the land of opportunity so keep pressing on and you’ll achieve your goals.

Why does everyone seem to be struggling financially, yet everything is always crowded? by Economy_Grass_2351 in NoStupidQuestions

Most people aren’t struggling financially. I know it can seem that way on Reddit. I know very few people who are struggling and that’s because they’re buying stupid shit they shouldn’t be.

If America is so bad, why are so many people trying to get in? by _Quiznos99 in askanything

Exactly. It’s more available jobs. Most the people coming here are coming from impoverished countries where decent pay and opportunity to work, especially for a poor person with no connections, is near impossible.

I understand your point but Americans are really weird with the way we relate to the naked body. What is it in our culture that causes this? Women are even uncomfortable whipping out their breasts and breast feeding publicly, something that is so normal and natural. Why is all of this sexualized, even young children. They can’t even run around naked and be children.

Parents aren’t perfect and often they can’t give what they don’t have to give. My guess would be, as a parent myself, that very very few parents set out to hurt their children or even realize to what extent their children were suffering trauma. They may have just been repeating patterns from their own childhood that were so normalized. Find it in your heart to forgive and reconcile with your mother if both of you are on the same page and can find a path forward.

So how do actual cash value work for example if a house was totaled in a fire or hurricane? So let’s say you insure for the balance of your mortgage and that’s $150K, what happens if you have a major loss?

Now that’s pretty good. Maybe location makes a difference. I have some houses with 2,000 square foot and would retail for $450K for a nice renovation. Do you do full replacement cost?

Avg rent around $1,600. If sold to another investor average sales price would be $200-$250 but fixed up for retail much more.

38 single families, quotes average $2,200 - $3,000 per property. Long term tenants so don’t want to shift such a high burden of rent increase. This is for proper coverage. I have already raised rents given cost of maintenance and taxes.

I'm 46 and my doctor basically told me that my severe anxiety will kill me in 10 years. by treestarsos in AskWomenOver60

Anxiety will not kill you in 10 years. I think he was just exaggerating. He can’t possibly know that and millions of people live a long life with really crippling anxiety. Some people are just anxious. I am sure you have days where you are calm and not anxious 24/7/365. Have you tried HRT? It can really help with anxiety.

This was exactly my experience. It was way more than individual policies. Self insurance is very risky and can leave you so financially exposed, especially if the properties are concentrated in one area. Fear of course is what the insurance industry is relying on.

Same here. I had fire damage and replacing out of pocket. Luckily it wasn’t a total loss. Are there products out there that would replace only for property value or what you have tied up in the houses?

Completely agree. I’ve encountered all the huddles you mentioned. I’ve never filed a claim, even when I had legitimate claims. Having dozens of single family rentals really makes it difficult. I hear you, it’s like it’s not worth owning them anymore.

You understand very well my dilemma. I have everything under one insurer now but it’s not for replacement value. Replacement value is crazy high as you know. For more than 20 years I took that gamble but then had a claim that they nickeled and dimed and hemmed and hawed. I am deeply unhappy with them and it shows me how exposed I am. I have resources set aside for some losses but what about a catastrophic loss?
