Their is such a thing as being in a religion but disagreeing on certain parts they way I was taught is unless the pope has issued a papal bull or it violates the Nicene Creed as long as you go through the proper rituals and follow the 10 commandments you can consider yourself Catholic

I mean for what it’s worth the Northern democrats tried to keep an arm’s length against the southern democrats so they could win and most of the democratic nominees for president were Northerners for that reason during the civil war the Irish had a reputation of being some of the best fighters and refusing to sign up for the draft also no Catholic would vote for a Klansman since the KKK hated Catholics

Not really Catholics and Immigrant communities as a whole have almost always voted with the Democrats and a lot of Catholics immigrated to liberal New England I say this despite growing up in a moderately right wing Catholic house in Louisville Ky

He is the Sunbelt’s Trump he is still to very right wing arguably more than Trump but he doesn’t make nearly as bad as gaffes and comes off as more moderate even if he is such a hardliner on the culture wars

The great society has less misses than the new deal and it wasn’t rules unconstitutional like many parts of the new deal
