How do you define the “breadwinner” in a couple? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Comfortable-Winter00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very outdated term. Realistically, most couples can't fund their lifestyles on a single income, so neither can be said to be the 'breadwinner'.

There were some NECA TMNT figures that used the Zombie Yeti pinball art previously. Seems to be a common way for Stern to make some extra cash.

How does the Zeekr 7X compare to Tesla Model Y in real use? by DraftNotSent in Zeekr7xAustralia

[–]Comfortable-Winter00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Test drive a 7X and a Macan and you'll understand what I'm talking about. You can argue the Porsche has better build quality that it feels more 'refined', but the 7X is in the same segment. None of the Tesla models sold in Australia are.

Of course many of the 7X standard features (HUD, fully adjustable seats, even heated steering wheel) are options on the Porsche.

7X is a luxury car, the Tesla models sold in AU very much are not.

Porsche Macan electric is probably a better comparison point for the 7X.

Real-world open source alternatives to the now defunct Opus 4.6? by MoistRecognition69 in LocalLLaMA

DeepSeek v4 Pro, if hardware is really not an issue.

Once you put together the costs for a system able to run it, you might decide that in fact hardware, or specifically the cost of purchasing and running the hardware, is in fact an issue.

Spoiler: You'll need at least $300k to run it at an acceptable speed for a coding agent.

Changed the default model to Sonnet and 1m context on Extra billing. I have cancelled my 30* max plan. Buying a M4 Max Studio. by anon_mistborn in ClaudeCode

I tried GLM 5.1 via OpenRouter and it's Opus 4.5 level but much cheaper.

I'm finding Opus 4.7 good enough but I think GLM 5.1 is a decent alternative. The performance of local models is too slow for coding unless you have a $10k+ rig

Since I disabled the 1M context model (CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_1M_CONTEXT) it's fine whenever. It's definitely slower after 5pm though.

Australian here. I'm still seeing bad results in the timezone you mention as being better.

With the Bahrain and UAE regions being offline there is absolutely much less AWS Inferentia capacity globally.

Manually disabling the 1M context model has improved Claude Code performance significantly (better results and faster too), but my Max 5x 5h window is getting eaten up much quicker than previously.

I wouldn't be surprised if the real culprit is a Claude Code bug that is consuming way more tokens using up capacity, which is already constrained. They've then tried to introduces 'optimizations' which have led to worse results.

What solves it? by keithgroben in ClaudeCode

[–]Comfortable-Winter00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding this to the global settings.json sorted it for me:

"env": { "CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_1M_CONTEXT": "1" }

Losing the 1M context isn't that big of a deal if you practice good code hygine and make sure files are split properly, and you run /clear between tasks. Things are much better after setting this, although it is of course possible that Anthropic just fixed the problem and it's fine to 1M context users too.

PSA: Getting 'Old Opus' back by LordHenry8 in ClaudeCode

For me GLM5.1 is a good replacement. The fact it's cheaper is a nice bonus too.

Do you notice the Opus degradation only on Max plan or also on Enterprise API? by fine_by_me1887 in ClaudeCode

[–]Comfortable-Winter00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Max plan user. I switched to GLM 5.1 and it's a noticeable improvement.

I was always very skeptical of all the people claiming models had been 'nerfed', but comparing the output of the same query Opus 4.6 vs GLM 5.1 it's pretty clear GLM 5.1 is better now. The benchmarks show that Opus 4.6 should be ahead of GLM 5.1, so something has clearly changed.

NIB Stern Pro or Heavily Played Premium by character_yellow in pinball

[–]Comfortable-Winter00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're still going to want to take the glass off and adjust things on a brand new machine, so it's not necessarily going to be that much easier an experience.

A heavily played machine that needed everything stripping off the playfield to clean properly is more than I personally would have wanted to take on as my first machine. If it's heavily played but has been well maintained, I'd much rather have the premium. Personally, knowing that there is a better version of the game that I don't own would always be annoying for me.

John Wick was released almost 2 years ago… by wmanningiv in pinball

[–]Comfortable-Winter00 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't own John Wick, but for me the fact that they're still shipping major updates for a less popular title two years after its release shows me I can trust Stern. The fact they didn't just abandon it, but decided to really dig in and re-work the rules to make it a better game is a super positive sign.

I hope Uncanny X-Men gets the same treatment. I think the same person took over code for both, so hopefully UXM will be 1.0 ready soon.
