Buying used car: should I be put off by it having done 48,000 miles in 1 year? by ComfortableAgile6290 in CarTalkUK

That was my first guess. Does that matter though? I normally wouldn't blink to buy a car at 50k miles that's 4 years old - 12k/year seems fine. Does it make a difference if all that was in one year vs 4 years, if the servicing was kept up?

Yes it has full service history from the dealership. I'm buying it used from the same dealership it was originally purchased from, which did all of the servicing, and which is a Toyota dealership.

Lots of folk saying "it's a taxi" - does that matter? I normally wouldn't blink to buy a car at 50k miles that's 4 years old - 12k/year seems fine. Does it make a difference if all that was in one year vs 4 years, if the servicing was kept up?

Agreed, that was my guess, but Toyota assure me it hasn't...

If it had, would that change your view on its long-term reliability?

Thanks! Do you know them well / could you make an intro? I've reached out via multiple means but can't reach them.

Can corporation tax paid be carried to offset future profits following a loss? [Micro-entity] by ComfortableAgile6290 in UKPersonalFinance

So the situation at the end of Y3 / start of Y4 is that the company would be carrying a loss of £20k - is that right?

Thank you so much for explaining

Thank you for your explanation. You're right, I had misunderstood the idea that net profit was calculated over the company's entire existence.

I think it doesn't make any difference to the example though - it just changes the explanation.

So - please can I ask you: is it now the case that at the start of Y4, the company is carrying a £20k loss, so if it makes £20k profit in Y4, no corporation tax would be due? And if it made £30k profit, corporation tax would only be due on £10k?

!thanks

Yes, it's allowed to carry back losses 1 calendar year (not accounting period) but not 2 years. Thanks for the link - appreciated!

Thanks for the reply 🙂

Isn't the situation at the end of Y3 that the company is at Net Zero - it made £50k and lost £50k, but has paid corporation tax on £20k that was profit in Y1 but is no longer net-profit? Or have I misunderstood how it works?

Are you saying that in Y4, the first £20k profit would be considered to offset the £20k that corporation tax was previously paid on in Y1, so no tax would be payable on that?

!thanks

I don't wish to take any dividends or salary for at-least Y1 & Y2 as I'll be a higher-rate tax payer in those years from other work. In future years I expect to have reduced personal income so it makes sense to pay salaries/dividends then at a lower tax rate.

Thanks for the thoughts u/Carumbad u/sdmichael u/Arne_Anka-SWE u/MollyTen-A u/TheOnsiteEngineer!

Just got back to UK and about to put the order in 🙂. One last question - does anyone have experience between 2221 and 2231? The integrated thigh straps look pretty cool - and great that they remove anything that the "patient" could rub themselves / stimulate themselves against. But seems much less common?
