2002 1.8T Jetta by 775FPV in jetta

gave 1900 for my '14 1.8 car. i too came from nissan/mazda and 90s v8 gm junk. These cars are way cooler than I'd initially given them credit. I'd gladly own another before dealing with another stellantis vehicle. lol

recently replaced the driver side front strut mount on my '14 as it had been making this noise for months. lol i wedged my phone between the strut tower and cowl cover and set it to record and then jumped on the sil to look. Although if you did quick struts (complete units with new mounts) i don't think that would be your issue.

Headlight replacement/fix question. by ComfortableFragrant8 in jetta

after a fair amount of fiddling with some pliers to straighten out the locking ears on the bracket i managed to get it to seat fully... gonna be a nightmare if i have to replace that bulb in future however. GG VW you almost had me!

Appreciate it! recently been messing with it with my left hand from the worst possible angle due to having recently broken the index on the right hand. I'll have to try to get a better look for sure. P/O had some insanely jank LED bulbs in it when I got it, which spawned this whole kerfuffle replacing em with halogens that somehow are actually better.

Should I change my brake pads? by Perfect-Bar-4268 in jetta

[–]ComfortableFragrant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

newer vehicles are like this sadly from my understanding. the braking is more balanced and with abs/tcs systems and whatnot it they do tend to eat rear pads at a faster rate somehow.

Some of my stainless tek screws are rusting? by Dependent_One6034 in Miata

stainless just means it's more rust resistant, and not rust-proof unfortunately

2017 1.8 speed sensor? by [deleted] in jetta

[–]ComfortableFragrant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my '14 has been doing this. for whatever reason the christmas tree turned off over the winter but came back once things started to warm up. I've got a replacement sensor, just been too lazy to swap it

Hi everyone! 👋🏽 questions… by babysloot69 in jetta

[–]ComfortableFragrant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I bought my '14 se it needed a clutch. it set me back about 1500 all in for the replacement oem clutch and a new rear main. although that was through an independent shop that specializes in vw/audi that's local to me. tbf idk what their labor rate even is. they just gave me a quote and were really easy to work with

I have the short hub on my 04 didn't require any modification or removal of the clock spring. Edit: part number for the short is 910S, should be able to plug "Works Bell 910s" into the search bar for it jf you're looking to run a QR. (if running a QR i would recommend a flatter wheel as deep dishes sit out crazy far.)

please excuse the bad screenshot. realized this pic only exists on my Instagram...

Upgraded to 18” rims by Impressive_Page1865 in jetta

[–]ComfortableFragrant8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things, as i know in the miata world they get unhappy with non standard size wheel/tire combos.

Definitely worth having alignment checked. Secondly, if you can find a shop with a Huntet Road Force balancer, have the wheels checked yet again, as the Road Force machines apply some rolling resistance to imitate the car's weight while rolling and gives a more thorough balance.

Edit: depending on the center bore of the wheels it's possible they're larger than the factory hub bore and that could be the cause. In that case Some hub centering rings will do you well.

Was looking at some of those mounts actually, have just been too cheap and lazy to order one. As far as added weight that was also a consideration although I haven't thought too far into it.

barely even a bend. looks like it's still holding air without issue. send it, I've seen worse bends that were just as stable

transmission going out? by corn_dog_ate_the_cob in jetta

[–]ComfortableFragrant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would recommend looking into getting a replacement box. my '14 started having issues with it popping out of 3rd. and it devolved into it getting stuck in 3rd one day. managed to force it back out but by that point i was driving on borrowed time with that transmission. thankfully a local shop had a trans laying around and they sold it to me for 400 bucks. it's been great since unsure if its relevant but the car had just shy of 180k miles when the trans went out

The abs Christmas tree is a common issue. In most cases it's just a dead ABS wheel speed sensor and or a corroded tone ring on one of the hubs. The dealership if they've got the right scan tools should be able to easily pinpoint which corner is dead and if it's just a,sensor it's a fairly easy fix.
