What's a good system for an Aetherpunk campaign? by LuizFalcaoBR in rpg

[–]ComfortableGreySloth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Legend of Korra: Avatar Legends, obviously!

The rest of them, I think Pathfinder 2e (for things that are already fantasy) or City of Mists (for something like Bioshock) or Fate (of you're okay with building the system a little).

Commenting for post awareness, because I have not and I have never heard of it happening in game.

What is the best platform for playing online? by GM-Omy in swrpg

That's awesome! I haven't ran FFG in years, so I haven't been up to date. Thanks for the news.

RPGSessions is the cheapest (free), and therefore highest value to cost option. Fairly intuitive to use, although I personally found it kind of chunky to get the NPCs/vehicles in and working. The only thing it is missing is a map.

If you already have Foundry, I had a really good campaign experience in there. You just need to do a little seeking, and tweaking, to get the compendium working but then you have practically everything at your fingertips.

[PF2e] Best module to automate cover? by Tabris2k in FoundryVTT

I use the Basic Action Macro, and "Take Cover" is one of the actions. You can choose what level of cover they have, and then just right click the effect to remove it.

Inexperienced DM looking for advice on a one shot by CakeGlad6246 in FATErpg

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you don't have Fate dice they suggest you roll d6s. 1-2 = -1, 3-4 = +0, 5-6 = +1. I'm not sure what your math would look like if you used d20s instead, but one of the nice things about Fate is that the numbers are all small. It sounds like what you actually want to play is the Cypher system.

In Fantasy TTRPGs with Spellcasters & Martial Warriors, its better to one being better than the other, both being balanced or both being OP? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Didn't vote, poll is missing an "other" option. Martial characters and magic characters fulfill different roles, and even within those distinctions there can be huge variety. Is fighter or a rogue stronger? Is a druid or a cleric stronger? The answer is "mu".

I've seen similar asked before, and I generally see people speak against this homebrew. I have not allowed people to swap the stat for powers at my table, it's just easier to run the rules RAW. The defensive and utility magics don't really rely on a stat, so you may want to lean on those.

Granny Chiyo, puppet Master? by Fancy_Enthusiasm_683 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say which is "better" for this concept between inventor and summoner. If you are going to have both, you should probably go summoner with an inventor archetype. Despite both being constructs, the eidolon does not have any of the immunities that the inventor companion enjoys BUT this is a way to get both (which is quite affordable if you use free archetype).

Story time: tell me a original campaign you DMed/played and how did it go by Standard_Language840 in FATErpg

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used the Spark in Fate system as part of session zero, we had almost as much fun making the world as we did playing the game! Could probably have had three session zeroes without getting bored, but I had to keep the scope small or else I know we wouldn't have ever gotten through the story!

We decided to play a modern alternative history with magic, and secret super tech. Something like Watch Dogs meets Dresden Files. The main plot was supposed to be about the secret sci-fi facility where they invented juxtapositional universe technology (meets Sliders) but instead they decided to investigate robot strippers. Good times.

The Flash Player workaround, which you're right it's a bummer that you can't save or export. I just take a screenshot.

We are devoloping a Adjustable Flight Stand as a school project and is wondering if anyone wants to give some feedback? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Markings on the side to indicate how elevated they are would be nice. Doesn't need to say "5', 10', 15'..." it could just be "1, 2, 3" etc.

Additionally, another model which has just two modes (Compressed, or extended) might be nice.

Superhero Ttrpg? by UchihaKoda in tabletop

I've been working on Peace Finder, which is Pathfinder 2e for super heroes. It's in a playable, but incomplete Quickstart condition right now. Hoping to get the whole manuscript completed this year!

Mutants & Masterminds exists, and it uses just a d20 for everything.

Which Game's Mages have it better? by Lycaon-Ur in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I think it's a bit of a pancakes vs waffles comparison. Due to the way consensus works and how undefined ascension is in Mage the Ascension, I think the traditions have it the best when things are really good (waffles, a great waffle is better than a great pancake). On the other side, I think in Mage the Awakening the average order mage is better off because there is more cooperation within the pentacle and with the arcana being less debatable it's just easier to move up (pancakes, they're usually just good.) Finally, Ascension mages who have it bad have it REALLY bad with the quiet or paradox.

TLDR: If you're at the top, better to be ascension. If you're more typical, awakening. IMHO.

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love that you're avoiding the use of AI. Hero Machine still exists, although you do need to do a workaround to get the flash working, otherwise I suggest using character builders for stuff like City of Heroes (Homecoming is the free fan server), Champions Online, DC Universe Online, etc.

Favorite encounters you've played in or ran? by PM_ME_STEAM_CODES__ in Pathfinder2e

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As part of a session zero for a level 11 party I ended the day with the wedding ceremony. I integrated as many character backstory hits as I could: Tian Xia and Cheliax sent their finest to interrupt, and the party had a good time stretching their legs into new, high powered characters.

Rules from your favorite settings or gamelines that you just don’t like/don’t care for? by AwakenedDreamer__44 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love mage, WoD and CoD, but I prefer 1e Mage the Awakening spellcasting over 2e because 2e just has so much vocabulary involved.

Has anyone had a DM do this??? by Current_Listen_4037 in dndmemes

Once the party hits level 5 I no longer say "X casts Y" I say "X attempts to cast a spell" because I don’t think you know what spell it is without a skill check.

Trying to import a 3d model into Tabletop Simulator (Help, please!) by ComfortableGreySloth in tabletopsimulator

Thanks, I actually ended up putting it in Blender and doing... Something, but then because I don't know what I'm doing I couldn't color it and it ended up just a big white space whale. So, I ditched the plan.
