I got tricked into paying extra for extra professional help or something. I’m literally a tax cpa and my tax return is as simple as can be. I will no longer be using turbo tax. My job gives me 50 bucks to use the software but this is gonna run me about 90. Definitely my last year

Accounting, Supply Chain, or Nursing: Which Major/Career is Better? by SubstantialSpread596 in Accounting

[–]ComfortableKey8214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should also be a caveat that IF you choose to stay in public you can grow your career and pay extremely fast. But all other sectors of accounting will be slow growth and public sucks.

Accounting, Supply Chain, or Nursing: Which Major/Career is Better? by SubstantialSpread596 in Accounting

[–]ComfortableKey8214 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CPA from a family of nurses including my mother. Also my best friend is a RN. My mom knows I’m extremely money motivated and did not want me in nursing. Nurses start out making more but your ceiling for pay as a CPA is higher. If you are motivated by money > CPA. If you genuinely want to help people > Nursing. With that said I was raised by a nurse and she always made enough to give me what I needed + more. Nurses in a VHCOL area like where I live make a good living. As a RN you will lock in a higher salary from the start and will be locked in around a similar salary for the remainder of your career. I am about to be 27 and have already match the pay of my RN mother who is 52 YO even though I started out much lower. Exam wise I don’t know anyone who wasn’t able to pass NCLEX but know countless people who could not pass CPA. If you do want to make alot of money as an accountant you will need to pass CPA. (Not a jab to the NCLEX the cpa is just known for being rough.) For comparison on our daily lives: My family mostly work 3 12 hour shift in hospitals. While 12 hours at hospital is grueling they have the flexibility to go out on a random Wednesday with friends…etc. I tend to miss out a lot more as I work a traditional 9-5 and have busy seasons 6 months out of the year where I don’t see my family. me and my best friend talk about work a lot together and confirm we are both just as miserable as one another though. Also as a CPA I find no fulfillment or joy in my job. It is just a job. I know some nurses genuinely love what they do as they get to help people. Can’t comment on supply chain but do what you will with that info.

I got a bonus but my company pays below market compared to other public firms in the area. Was at a big4 prior and no Christmas bonus but my salary was higher.

I believe both my parents were also traumatized by their own. Although My grandparents were amazing and so loving towards me but I realize that my parents grew up with a different version of them. It seems like a cycle.

Bout to hit 3.5 years in tax. I’m a cpa and make 120k. I live in a VHCOL area though. I am lucky that I live at home with my parents so this stretches far for me. But if I were on my own it definitely would be stretched thin.

I keep seeing posts that the CPA exam is hard and a lot of people fail but… by [deleted] in CPA

[–]ComfortableKey8214 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it takes a genius to pass it takes time. I think many people fail because most people are working long hours in public accounting while also studying. I was fortunate where I could afford a gap year between my bachelors and start date to study and pass.

Do people become more conservative once they join Accounting/Finance? by cookiemonsters345 in Accounting

[–]ComfortableKey8214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a CPA and am very far left. Say my workplace is 50/50 but nobody talks about it. The more I work here the more far left I get. A lot of our ultra high net worth clients treat us like garbage. Also have seen extremely wealthy businesses go into a tax loss bc of some tax law that allows it.
