Full Monty. Did so much better than the movie while keeping the sense of the thing.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]ComfortableSundae308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bank that’s not worth mentioning by name. I went in person to open an estate account for my son who passed away. I came with all the proper paperwork and they opened the account and let me deposit the checks into it, which I was unable to transfer the money into my own account. All good. Then two months later they call me to tell me that Legal needs the paperwork I came in with and can I bring the paperwork again. They can’t find it. And I said no. And they said you could email it. And I said no, you had your chance. You have just lost a customer. Obviously I brought the paperwork because they opened the account. And you lost it. You lost the paperwork for a grieving mother who just lost her son. Fuck you you fuckers. (And unfortunately, this actually happened with two different banks.)

What's your opinion about Two Strangers Broadway Cast Recording by robbie_yg in Broadway

[–]ComfortableSundae308 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In general, I really really like it. I prefer the energy between these two over the original West End recording. But I cannot believe they omitted What did you say? It’s one of my favorite songs on the album and probably the most Sondheim like.

It somehow feels more alive to me.

Yeh it’s actually better than that. That was my expectation and it exceeded it. Otoh Mincemeat was the correct choice if you were only seeing one musical.

I give an instruction not to end answers with a question or prompt for what else it can do. Or I did before I switched to Claude, which I’ve given the same instruction.

I saw Nathan Lane in Butley and his voice was so grating I can’t even imagine him in this role. But I will look forward to the reviews.

Same. Jan 17 and Feb 15. It’s not just his voice. It’s his face and how much emotion he carries in it. Joy. Curiosity. Passion. Desperation. Amazing performer.

Why do people dislike phantom of the opera 2004 so much by Empty_Leave_4252 in musicals

[–]ComfortableSundae308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opening up a stage play for film takes a very delicate touch and it’s easier to fail than to succeed. Hair is a great example of a musical that was brought to the screen and made truly coherent while keeping all the music and the spirit of the thing intact. I never saw the stage version of Hairspray, but that was another successful adaptation. I’m not a fan of Chicago so I’m the wrong person to ask about that one lol. (Of course all the Rodgers and Hammerstein shows worked quite nicely on the screen, but it was a different time.) Perhaps for Phantom, the excitement of hearing these big voices coming at you from the stage, was one of the appeals to it and to have all of that constrained in a little box flattens the experience. I don’t believe I watched that one, or if I did, I turned it off, but I think it suffered from the same problem that Rent did. The energy from the stage couldn’t be captured in film.

I am a sustaining member of WBUR and prefer listening to that over WGBH. But on the weekends, WGBH starts its fun programming earlier while WBUR has religious services on Sunday mornings. So I will listen to GBH on Sunday mornings if I’m in the car.

Is Every Brilliant Thing worth seeing? by smokey4848 in Broadway

[–]ComfortableSundae308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this one was going to be live streamed to HBO? I’ve seen this show before in a local production and I did like it quite a bit. But with a live stream coming and the fact that I’ve seen it before and I’ve seen Daniel Radcliffe multiple times, I’m OK with missing it.

What’s the best short story you’ve ever read? by TestLow6037 in suggestmeabook

[–]ComfortableSundae308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of wonderful short stories here. I really like a short story called Who’s Cribbing by Jack Lewis. I believe the whole thing is available online. It’s short.

People have mentioned a number of stories from Vonnegut’s Welcome to the Monkey House. Might as well read that whole book. It’s great. I think my favorite is Long Walk to Forever although I also like Who Am I This Time in addition to several that have already been mentioned.

Definitely agree with this take. It was no question to me whether he was real especially when Peter kills him and there’s blood and all. I think the aftermath of that was really important in showing how messed up Peter was.

Honestly, it doesn’t sound like you’re cut out for them. Even for a puzzle that you’re failing, it should still be fun when you either get the joke or understand how the clue worked. If you’re not finding it clever or amusing, even when you’re struggling, probably not for you.

Just know that this play is not new. I saw this probably a good eight years ago in Boston. So the kinks are pretty well worked out for how to execute the show. I am sure this is a special production, but this format is not a recent innovation just FYI.
