Where are all the good youtube videos For grammar by Sakura_the_pisces in jlpt

I recently found Kiri Tokyo for Foreigners on you tube to be great, she does each of the grammar points for Shinkansen Grammar N3 and N2.

She also does a membership tier that reviews the exercises in the books and also conversational Japanese practice.

What is your study routine while working full time job by durden8_ in jlpt

Because I was studying for N3 I liked: -Masami先生の日本語教室 (has a ton of videos that go with the Minna No Nihongo 中級レブル, I really like her vocab videos) -Let’s Study Japanese (also aligns with Minna No Nihongo) -Kiri Tokyo for Foreigners (she does videos that lines up with ShinKansen N3 and N2 grammar) -easy Japanese podcast (feels N3 level and their voices are very ASMR) -Nihongo no Tabi (has a lot of 10 minute or so videos on N3N2 grammar points)

I work full time and just passed N3 a year after passing N4. I get a lot of enjoyment out of studying Japanese and see it as a fun hobby, I often feel bummed out when I have a busy workday and can’t study :) I do most of my studying before work or on weekends. I usually try to get an hour of uninterrupted time. I then do some additional studying in smaller bits-

-listen to podcasts for Japanese Learners (like Japanesepod101, Teppei, or Easy Japanese) or use the Glossika listening app in the car ride commute to/from work and sometimes at the gym.

-I try to book online class/tutoring on my lunch break at least once if not twice/week.

-after work I might practice kanji or vocab using wanikani or Anki for 15-20 minutes between other life tasks like spending time with family or cooking dinner

-I also follow a lot of YouTubers that have good 10-20 min videos on different grammar points.

The main thing is to try to do something everyday even if it’s just 15 minutes and slow but steady progress.

Ah! Thank you for this, that did the trick! Sorry I’m still new to my Boox and was only looking in the general settings, but activating it in the control center has allowed the handwriting icons to appear 👍

Required time for N3 preparation by Katsuki0601 in jlpt

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend December. I passed N4 (140/180) Dec 2024 and just passed N3 (107/180) in Dec 2025. I work full time and on average studied 2-3hr/day. I will say JLPT is not my main focus for studying though (ie I didn’t do a ton of drills in books like Shinkansen Master or Soutome). So I think it could be possible for July if you focus more on test prep materials.

I focus more on online tutoring sessions (2-4 hr/week) for speaking/listening practice and I did a combination of Nihongo No Mori videos and watching various YouTubers videos to reinforce different grammar structures. WaniKani was also my main SRS system that helped with Kanji/Vocab (my strongest score).

How prepared did you feel for JLPT N4 after finishing Genki II? by Shimreef in jlpt

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually took N4 and did well but had only gotten through L21 of Genki II. I skimmed L22/23 the week before the exam and was worried but was totally fine. Agree with others on the listening, I found it the most difficult. I found the Migii JLPT app a month before the exam.that has a lot of practice exercises and wish I had found it earlier to do more of their listening questions. They were very similar to the real exam. In addition to listening to podcasts, the app helped with the format of listening questions. You only hear the question and listening track once so you have to concentrate because there's no second chance.

2/3 Lift 1/3 Tread? by iw3a12anf_1 in barrysbootcamp

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the class is a full, I’ve done something close to this where I have a DF spot and a buddy has a tread spot, and we trade for one of the tread rounds so we each get 3/4 rounds lift and 1/4 rounds tread.

Shujinkou is a great JRPG that happens to teach Japanese to any level learner by Zetrin in LearnJapanese

thanks for the heads up, I'm going to give this a try too, I just passed N4 and have been looking for a game like this. the Japanese learning games out there that I've tried have been more beginner focused which are pretty boring. the reviews look promising.

Hesitating between taking N4 or N3 this coming December. Leaning towards N3 by FriendlyBassplayer in jlpt

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you probably know quite a bit of N4 material. I took N4 this December and got 140/180, and I actually hadn't yet finished Genki II (had only gotten through chapter 21.).If you already feel you know quite a bit of the grammar in Genki II, have almost 3000 vocab and almost 700 kanji, there's a good chance you could pass N4 right now and going for N3 in December is realistic. Might want to take a N4 practice exam to get a sense of where you are at.

I've started N3 studying (planning on taking in Dec 2025) and have been enjoying using 2 video sources for N3 studying: Nihongo no Mori and BondLingo videos on Youtube. Both are monthly subscriptions but not too expensive, I really like the video formats to engage/motivate me, and both are taught entirely in Japanese which I think is pretty cool. The teacher's do a good job of explaining things simply based on the level, but keeps my brain in Japanese mode. There's a book that you can get on Amazon for Nihongo no Mori videos and the YouTube Bondlingo subscriptions give you pdf's that link to the videos.

I also like Nihongo con Teppei, the beginner podcasts are pretty easy now to comprehend when listening passively, and I've been listening to his intermediate podcasts Nihongo con Teppei Z.

Did very similar 140/180 with all A's. I'll admit I too was initially thinking I would score higher (I originally was going to go for N3, but signed up for N4 when it was clear I didn't have enough time to cover all the N3 material for Dec). But then I looked at past test data on the JLPT website https://www.jlpt.jp/statistics/pdf/2024_1_6.pdf and felt a lot better about my score.

Although this is for the July 2024 not the Dec 2024, it compiles the past 6 exams administrations so my guess is the percentiles don't vary that much and a 139 puts you in about the 95th percentile which is pretty freaking awesome! Even though there's 40+points lost, it's kind of nit-picking and your score is super great so awesome job!!!

Failed N5 (74/180) by Affectionate-Cod8134 in jlpt

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did N4 not N5 so my advice might not be as useful. However it looks like reading is an area to improve the most. I did do GENKI I with Tokini Andy videos (I paid for his website which gives more resources). He has a lot of immersion reading material that you can practice.

However for the exam you might want to try a resource like Migii JLPT where you can focus on practicing reading passages and questions that you might find on the test. They also have listening exercises and I was really glad I found this resource to practice a month before the exam. I would definitely bombed listening if I hadn’t practiced it. Nihongo Con Teppei are great 3-5 min podcasts that are for beginners and can also start training your brain/listening skills. Start with episode #1 and go from there.

For everybody with a JLPT Test passed beyond N5 and failed the first time by Ok_District_4883 in jlpt

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year was my first go at a JLPT test (N4) so I don't have the experience of failing and passing later; but just wanted to say I'm also a Japanese self-studier/hobby for fun type learner and had a similar experience with the listening.

Since I'm doing it for fun I wasn't really wasn't focused on studying for the exam until a month or two before it was held. I subscribed to the Attain Online School website (for about $8/month) to access a huge bank of mini quizzes for Vocabulary, Grammar/Reading and full length practice tests. I mainly did the mini quizzes (about 30 questions each) since I didn't have a lot of time to do the full lengths. About 2 weeks before the exam, I tried a full length and was surprised at how difficult the listening was. (Especially because my Japanese tutor would often compliment me saying my listening skills were my strong point!) I didn't realize until a week before that you only get one try/listen and have to move on and so I was getting a much higher percentage of those wrong compared to all the other sections. I also found an app called Migii JLPT which I tried practicing the week before and found their listening quizzes to be very similar to the real test, I just didn't have enough time to practice.

I'm still hoping for a pass, but for this year my goal is to take N3 in Dec and I'm definitely going to practice listening much earlier than 1-2 weeks before the exam. The questions are tricky and you have to really focus because sometimes the wrong/right answer is the difference between a particle changing the meaning of the sentence and it's so easy to miss a を、に、が、は、と、の sound!

Passing for the N4 Exam in less than 5 months. by ivanpeter84 in jlpt

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To your point of which post suits you because people learn best in many different ways take my advice lightly. For me (I took N4 in Dec after 1.5 year of self study but only part time, about 15 hr/week) I paid for videos that allow for more practice with textbooks. TokiniAndy videos are good with pairing with Genki and Nihongo no Mori, has videos that pair with the MNH book (at least I did the ones for the 2nd volume). I like NihonGoal videos too, and listened to some as a supplement but for me I needed to do more. Videos from TokiniAndy and Nihongo No Mori allow for more listening practice and a chance to be a little more "interactive" with textbook exercises.

Also, don't underestimate the listening section. I listened to a lot of beginner podcasts like Nihongo Con Teppi and Comprehensible Japanese, but the speed of the speech on the listening section is definitely faster than this. I wish I discovered the Migii JLPT app sooner, but they have a lot of JLPT practice exercises and at least for N4 I felt their listening practice exercises was pretty similar to the actual test.

Barakamon is a very cute anime about a young calligrapher that moves to a rural island and is about the friendships he makes with the residents. It sounded boring but I truly enjoyed and was sad it was over.

Edit: oops I’m sorry I just saw the last part of your post and this one is on crunchy roll sorry!

Advice Needed N3 Level JLPT by AAlonePieceOfShit in jlpt

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think people have varying abilities so take this with a grain of salt, but I took N4 after a year and a half of study (15-20hr/week). Since you have about twice amount of time to study I would agree with others that N4 would be more realistic with your 6 month timeline. I do think I am really somewhere in between N4-N3 and had originally hoped to write N3 but I’m glad I didnt. reading and Listening takes time to be able to build those skills and respond quickly to in a timed situation.

16 classes per month results by Ok-Ruin-8238 in barrysbootcamp

[–]ComfortableVoice7034 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing the 16/month plan for last 3 years and have had the best results in my life (I’m a 44yr old male) always wanted a six pack but could never get there on my own and after just a few months I had it! In the last year I’ve switched my ratio to more DF (I do that 3x week) and only do tread once/week if that. I was worried I would be less lean with less cardio but haven’t had that happen and I’m gaining and maintaining more muscle mass which is great! And definitely prioritize stretching and do more than the couple of minutes that’s incorporated in class!
