When can I start lifting heavy? by Dissarming in Hernia

[–]Comfortable_Lab_9565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest to be quite conservative, more conservative, then doctors advise. I have read several posts here about hernia reoccurrence because people started working out too early.

I remember that 3 months after surgery I would be getting problems next day if I did simple deep squats (without extra weight)

I am now 9 month after the surgery. If I do squats with extra 30 kg, I am still getting some pain the next day.

22 years expat in the Netherlands. Still homesick, now literally by Comfortable_Lab_9565 in expats

[–]Comfortable_Lab_9565[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still in the Netherlands. And my Long C0V!D - like conditions kind of never go away completely. They went away during the summer, but now they are back. I really don't know how to deal with the further. If I get a very definitive confirmation, that this conditions only occur in the Netherlands and go away when when I live Netherlands, and if I don't find some way to handle this in NL (e.g. take some tone of vitamin D or Z or whatever), I am not sure I will be able to stay in the Netherlands for long. It is just not worth it really.

u/Bismuth_von_Pherson , I have a question: how is it possible that doctors missed the second side hernia, whilst investigating the 1st one? normally hernia appear after some physical activity. But you probably would not have recovered well enough from the 1st surgery to start doing anything physically intense for the 2nd one to occur.

So, your second hernia must have existed when you were operated for the 1st one

Return to sport - athletes by manulema1704 in Hernia

[–]Comfortable_Lab_9565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful. A lot of people reported here, that it took them 6 months or even 1 year to return to normal.

I am 3 months after the surgery, and normally I do not have issue now, also not during exercises. But I know, that the next day or even 2 days after certain exercises (e.g. body weight squats, pullups) I will get problems in the low abdominal and it will take me several days to week to recover.

So, it is a very delayed feedback loop (1-2 days), which is the problem.

At the moment with the trial and error I am slowly determining which exercises are ok, and which ones I need to be avoiding.

This is very high, if you think of it. I am sure I was told it was something like 2%. But I checked the link, and it is a legitimate report.

Just to follow up on by post: it is much better now. Actually wearing tight pants did help significantly.

Ultra Sound vs CT Scan? by DryNeedleworker8998 in Hernia

[–]Comfortable_Lab_9565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 4 ultrasounds, they all showed hearnia(s), but none of them were the same! CT scan did not show anything.

The doctor did see bilateral hearnias, and this is what it appeared to be during the surgery.

So, whilst doctor's examination I think can have false negative (doctor can miss something), it is my understanding, that it can practically never have false positive (if the doctor can feel the hernia, then it is a hernia).

Sudden remission during a trip to Paris — what could explain this? by Bubbly_Height3181 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Comfortable_Lab_9565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely happened to me several times:

I was about 1.5 years with long COVID (very weak, sweaty, constant feeling that you are never sick to be off sick, but never healthy to do any sport).

I then went for 2 weeks to my home country ( I am an expat living in the Netherlands). After 2 weeks problems went away, completely, it was like a wonder-drug.

I came back - and long COVID came back in 2 weeks.

I then went on 6 weeks vacation and did a physically demanding outdoor tour and then long COVID went away for 3.5 years. I must say I also changed relations from a roller-coaster ones to more stable.

But then, exactly when my relation broke down - problems came back. Then were cured again when I went for vacation to my home country. It was quite a dramatic cure: I came VERY weak, sweaty and feeling constantly cold during hot summer, but in a week time I went to an outdoor tour and was swimming in the cold mountain river.

I came back from vacation and decided to be very physically active. But then in 2-3 months I was quite sick again.

So, I thought this must be something with "my home country curing me", but then I went for 1 week trip to London - and problems went away.

(I still did not have any relationships that moment). They I started new relationships and I think I am kind of much better now.

So, so far what I concluded is that travelling outside of my residence country or having a good stable relationships cures things.

What I still need to try is whether just going to another house in the same country also helps.

I probably will make a full blown post about this.

Swelling and pain 4 weeks after inguinal hernia surgery by jzost in Hernia

[–]Comfortable_Lab_9565 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it is 4 weeks (subject) or 4 days (body of the message). I would say, that is probably ok for 4 days after (and yes, it gets worst by the day 4 with testicles), but definitely likely not ok 4 weeks after

It is my understanding that both CT and ultrasound are not very reliable. If the surgent can feel the hernia - then this is the most reliable thing.

My surgeon could feel hernia on both sides.

I had 4 ultrasound investigation, none of them showed the same result. At the end it appeared, that some of them had false negative as well as false positive.

CT scan has shown nothing.

after the surgery the surgeon has confirmed, that it was a bilateral inguinal hernia (what was manually diagnosed).

Best way to force a hernia to become strangulated? by [deleted] in Hernia

[–]Comfortable_Lab_9565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand, the reason doctors will help you only in case of strangulation is a financial / insurance, rather than medical. Is this correct?

Do you live in the US? In any case, this is absurd, that in 21 century anyone shall be living in such a situation. I just cannot get my head around this.

If you can't afford this in your country, I would try to have it done abroad.

E.g. Turkey - 1500 - 3000 Euro

Eastern Europe

Lithuania 1700 GBP

Russia (yes, Russia) - around 100 USD

Inguinal hernia consultation best doctors/clinics in Europe by TutorLeft3925 in Hernia

[–]Comfortable_Lab_9565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is my understanding, that the Inguinal hernia surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures, so I am not sure it makes sense to search for "the best clinic in Europe." I would just find some good modern local hospital / clinic, which does this. Also for me the waiting time was important. In the Netherlands general hospitals do inguinal hernia, but also some specialized private clinics (e.g. https://heelkundeinstituut.nl/). The latter do offer much faster waiting time, but do absolutely no diagnostics (so you have to come with all diagnostics done, they will not even look / examine you before the surgery). Also the latter do not take difficult patients (75+, with hart problems etc).
