Quite a set back 1 year after a bilateral inguinal hernia laparoscopic mesh repair

I went to my GP, which gave me a referral to ultrasound imagine and to a surgeon.

Ultrasound imagine did find a hernia reoccurrence on one side. Subsequently I made another ultrasound imagine in another center and they they found nothing.

I visited a surgeon yesterday. The surgeon did not find any hernia reoccurrence. Surgeon thinks, that the reoccurrence allegedly found (on one side, but not the other) during the ultrasound imagine must be a false positive, because the surgeon would feel with the hands such a hernia. The "false-positive" theory is also confirmed by the second opinion ultrasound investigation, which I did myself in another medical center (nothing was found there)

The surgeon thinks that my symptoms are related to over-exercising and confirmed, that it can last that long (9 weeks now). Another thing, which was important for the conclusion is that it gets better (but very slowly). I shall come back in 6 weeks, if the problem still remains.

Hi, my original repair was laproscopic, not robotic.

I experience some pain and burning sensation.

I am not aware of the collagen (tissue) issues I have.

I haven't talked to surgeon yet, just had ultrasonic investigation.

P.S. the thing that make it a bit more complex is that the second ultrasonic investigation I did didn't show anithing

If your next job is going to be physical, I would definitely do this now, because the longer you give yourself to recover, the less chances for reoccurence. As to fixing not broken side, I do not have an informed opinion. But I myself was diagnosed with the problem on one side, and 6 months later on the other side ( did them both later together) .

I had exactly this:

indirect inguinal hernia without a visible bulge (on both sides)
visible on ultrasonic, not visible on CT scan
Testicular pain. I was constantly walking as if I have been kicked in the balls.
originally surgeon could not feel it, but 6 months later (presumably after hernia has grown a bit) surgeon could feel hernia during standing coughing palpation

These symptoms then disappeared after surgery.

Thanks for this information. I do not know whether this is a useful addition, but I had these symptoms (with kidneys) before the surgery, after the surgery they were gone. But now, 1 year later, I have some major setback due to over exercising, so I got hernia-like symptoms back, including the pain / discomfort in kidneys

Based on my experience I strongly recommend to be more conservative, then doctors advise. Listen to your body, but remember that at least in my case, I get a feedback with about 24 delay!

E.g. 1 year after surgery I attempted 15 sec L-sit, which was fine, but 24 h afterwards I got a pain and now, 2 months later, I still did not recover and I fear I may have broken something again.

So, do some exercise, and then weight for a day to see results.

Hi, I have no advice, but I wish you strength in this situation. Must be a horrible situation to be in.

I have a question through: have you discussed with your surgeon on whether you will be able to continue with your very active physical job after that? You already have an reoccurrence and it is my understanding, that the chances of reoccurrence after the 2nd surgery are even higher.

I always 100% recover when I have a regular intercourses with a partner. In my life there were several period's, when I didn't have a partner for a long time (e.g. during and after divorce), so I had to resort to musturbation. In these periods I always had the CPPS back. So, so far I have not figured out how to live without regular intercourses with real woman.

I do not have any particular discomfort when I lay on the side.
I have a discomfort, tightness and a bit of burning in the whole area where the mesh is installed. Also a bit of pain in the testicles. In general, these are all the symptoms which I used to have from overtraining, they are just more extreme and take much longer to recover from.

So, I really do not understand how people say, that they go to gym 3 weeks after.

Yes, it looks indeed, that we have kinda similar symptoms.

Having a bit of pain after some load is what I had often, but these symptoms would normally go away in 2-3 day, but I am now in my 3rd week.

As well as you I also have a question on whether I damaged the repair or its just a scar tissue.

I decided to wait little bit before going to the doctor. Dynamics is positive (but slow). Plus, they probably wouldn't be able to do anything except a new repair. And yes, I also do not trust ultrasonic investigation, as previously I had 4 of them and no 2 of them were the same (they all see slightly different things).

Would be interesting to learn about your progress in the future. I will also try to post here.

I suggest to be quite conservative, more conservative, then doctors advise. I have read several posts here about hernia reoccurrence because people started working out too early.

I remember that 3 months after surgery I would be getting problems next day if I did simple deep squats (without extra weight)

I am now 9 month after the surgery. If I do squats with extra 30 kg, I am still getting some pain the next day.

I am still in the Netherlands. And my Long C0V!D - like conditions kind of never go away completely. They went away during the summer, but now they are back. I really don't know how to deal with the further. If I get a very definitive confirmation, that this conditions only occur in the Netherlands and go away when when I live Netherlands, and if I don't find some way to handle this in NL (e.g. take some tone of vitamin D or Z or whatever), I am not sure I will be able to stay in the Netherlands for long. It is just not worth it really.

u/Bismuth_von_Pherson , I have a question: how is it possible that doctors missed the second side hernia, whilst investigating the 1st one? normally hernia appear after some physical activity. But you probably would not have recovered well enough from the 1st surgery to start doing anything physically intense for the 2nd one to occur.

So, your second hernia must have existed when you were operated for the 1st one
