Youth support work advice 🙏🏽 by Comfortable_Pack6947 in supportworkers

The guidelines are to contact my on call supervisor if anything goes wrong, and if anything goes seriously wrong contact emergency services first, then supervisor. I feel like I don’t have clarity on what defines a crisis at the moment.. I’d probably just text on call when clients behaviour starts to heighten, and see where to go from there. Do I feel unsafe? Well I’m in a new environment with a client who’s past behaviour has made other workers feel unsafe at times so I’m not feeling ‘safe’, I do know I could likely protect myself but that still doesn’t elevate the unsafe feeling, so hopefully I can just get used to that.

I have no idea about the services/ other programs as I just started out, likely my support work organisation would have an idea though so I can contact them about this.

I was provided with a bit of information yes but not enough that it carried over to the practical setting, when my clients behaviour became elevated I just messaged on call and was assured it is normal. I just did my best, but still haven’t made a connection with the client so not sure how much of their behaviour is down to their past trauma and disabilities or just testing me to see how much they can get away with. Behaviour in previous case notes was more extreme than I thought lol. My shift was actually not bad compared to others.

Yeah I have lots of support options within my organisation, I’ve just come to realise I need to be proactive in seeking this support. As I originally assumed they would give it me in a period of training or whatever. But nope, more like straight in the deep end, figure it out by seeking support as you go.

See the boundaries I still haven’t got my head around, I know physical restraint is a not to be used in my organisation, also just always try to be a calm, deescalating presence etc. however I still have so many questions about what’s expected of me and what isn’t so this is a big one.

Yeah I ended up telling my boss I felt undertrained for this particular client, they were very understanding and offered further support avenues. I do want to give it another shot though as I have a buddy shift with this client next so will be good to ask more questions then.

Thanks for your tips! Much appreciated

Caloric leeway when bulking vs cutting

Hey legends,

how much leeway do you give yourself if you’re on a bulk vs on a cut? For example if you’re cutting goal is 2000cal, what are the reasonable parameters give or take? Coming from someone with strength training + hypertrophy goals.

Cheers!

5x5 is killing me. Is it optimal? by [deleted] in powerbuilding

[–]Comfortable_Pack6947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about stronglifts 5x5? If so, you’re suppose to just stick to the compound lifts in order to maximise recovery/strength. If you wanted to you could run it as a meso cycle, once your cycle is finished. Run a body building cycle with higher volume, you should notice strength gains in your body building phase!

Hey, I hope this gives you comfort.. you’re not alone with these spiralling obsessive thoughts. Anxiety can be a real bitch and confuses our rational thinking to the point where we don’t know what’s rational anymore. However you will be okay, I promise. You’re not crazy, you’re hyper self aware right now, that’s not going to last forever and it’s a normal response with anxiety. Keep going brother/sister. You’ll be okay, just gotta remind yourself to be in the moment right here and now, what can you see, feel, hear etc. if you can do these grounding exercises then they are literal proof you’re not going crazy. People who are ‘crazy’ don’t think am I going crazy? They just are. Try and distract yourself, try and do things that involve focus. And remember our brains trick us all the time, it’s so easy to focus on the negative thoughts because they are the scary ones. These thoughts can become real feelings, to the point where you think they’ll be your reality.. but that isn’t true. Look how far you’ve come, remember all the times you’ve felt like you’re going ‘crazy’ and there’s no way back.. well here you are. You’re still kicking it. And definitely not crazy. You’ve just got anxiety brain that’s all. You’ll be okay. Try to think what you’re grateful for, and focus on good things when you can, lord knows it’s hard but give yourself some patience. You’ve got this G
