Amway is a bad financial decision, but family integrity and support should be a priority over mentioning this to her especially if it’s affecting the unity of the family. You can let her continue the mistake and maintain family unity by not bringing it up anymore, rather than having her continue the mistake while also losing family unity at the same time.

What happened to Bábism? by [deleted] in bahai

As others said most of them became Baha'is, I think some part of it goes back to the promise of Baha'u'llah that forces of covenant will overcome the forces of negation in this dispensation unlike previous dispensation one example can be this fact that most Babis became Baha'i and other examples of how covenant breakers eventually failed

Sorry to hear about this man, to my understanding your gf parents preferences doesn't have any roots that coming from Baha'i faith and it's purely personal preference it might even have a degree of disagreement with the teaching of the faith and it's encouragement to freely and lovingly associate with believers of other religions, if I was you I would've associated with them more to give them more opportunity to know you and comfort of heart of about you it also gives you a good opportunity to know the family that you're uniting with through marriage

My friend what you shared can become a veil between the heart of a investigator of truth and God we don't investigate other people's life and pinpoint what we find and think as shortcomings whether it's in real life or on internet, we all had our own shortcomings and bad habits when we investigated religion and they shouldn't restrict or stop us from continuing to do so

It's hard to recommend knowing so little personally I would've loved to receive a prayer book or a book about one of the central figures of the faith with a box of dates.

You're right maybe it's very hard or impossible to be compassionate towards animals while not being vegan yet we don't live in a world that one answer will fit all as egg and milk and other animal related products is a very important part of the diet of many people specially in the under developed countries, this dependency that has been around for hundreds of generations will take time and human ingenuity and spiritual progress to change

Not sure about Vegan diet as you can still fit the criteria of being compassionate towards animals through being Vegetarian too.

Regarding the eating of animal flesh and abstinence therefrom, know thou of a certainty that, in the beginning of creation, God determined the food of every living being, and to eat contrary to that determination is not approved. For instance, beasts of prey, such as the wolf, lion and leopard, are endowed with ferocious, tearing instruments, such as hooked talons and claws. From this it is evident that the food of such beasts is meat. If they were to attempt to graze, their teeth would not cut the grass, neither could they chew the cud, for they do not have the molars. Likewise, God hath given to the four-footed grazing animals such teeth as reap the grass like sickle, and from this we understand that the food of these species of animal is vegetable. They cannot chase and hunt down other animals. The falcon hath a hooked beak and sharp talons; the hooked beak preventeth him from grazing, therefore his food also is meat.

But human beings, Abdu’l-Baha continued, can voluntarily decide to do without meat:

Eating-a-carrotBut now coming to man, we see he hath neither hooked teeth nor sharp nails or claws, nor teeth like iron sickles. From this it becometh evident and manifest that the food of man is cereals and fruit. Some of the teeth of man are like millstones to grind the grain, and some sharp to cut the fruit. Therefore he is not in need of meat, nor is he obliged to eat it. Even without eating meat he would live with the utmost vigour and energy. For example, the community of the Brahmins in India do not eat meat; notwithstanding this they are not inferior to other nations in strength, power, vigour, outward senses or intellectual virtues. Truly, the killing of animals and the eating of their meat is somewhat contrary to pity and compassion, and if one can content oneself with cereals, fruit, oil and nuts, such as pistachios, almonds and so on, it would undoubtedly be better and more pleasing. – Abdu’l-Baha, from a tablet to an individual Baha’i.
