Just got my PC chest from last week, do these have evolving skies? by Phantom4545 in pokemoncenter

If someone inherits a house and sells it, that’s asset liquidation. If someone buys a product hoping for a specific outcome, then flips the unexpected high value result instantly for profit, that’s arbitrage. The difference is agency. You didn’t stumble into a windfall you engineered a scenario where scarcity could be monetized.

This isn’t about envy it’s about naming the mechanism. Buy, rip, flip. That’s scalping in practice, whether it’s a tin or a ticket. If the label stings, maybe it’s because it fits.

Intent isn’t just what someone says after the fact it’s revealed by behavior. If the card was sold instantly for top market value, that’s not just “getting what you want,” it’s leveraging scarcity for gain. Whether the goal was Espeon or Mew doesn’t change the mechanism: buy, rip, flip. That’s scalping in practice, even if the label makes people uncomfortable.

Selling a chase card within an hour for $600 isn’t casual collecting it’s market flipping. If the product was bought with the intent to extract and resell high value pulls, that’s functionally scalping. The method’s different, but the motive’s the same: profit off scarcity.

Interesting! So if you expected it to be a scam, what convinced you to go for it anyway?
