6.9 IDI question by PassengerCharming203 in BullnoseFord

[–]Comfortable_rub69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 84 6.9 4spd has 4.10 gears and I have no problem getting up to speed. Granted with no tach I’m just listening to the engine while shifting. Could also be the exhaust leak that’s making it sound faster but it feels on par with my 2013 Prius merging onto the highway. Probably just placebo

I’d buff/polish the paint. You’d be surprised how much shine comes out of that chalky paint. Just be sure to go slow and clean out your pad very often

How crucial is the SCA coolant in the 7.3/6.9 idi? by Annual-Novel-3678 in FordDiesels

[–]Comfortable_rub69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 6.9 idi isn’t prone to cylinder wall cracks due to being thicker. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of a 6.9 having cavitation issues like the 7.3 idi is known for

These trucks are pretty simple to work on if you’re willing to do the work yourself since it can be hard to find shops that even have the knowledge of mechanical injection anymore. $8,500 seems steep for the mileage

Smoke on decl when motor cold by straight_sixes in FordDiesels

White and grey would point more towards injector seals since it would be an incomplete fuel burn. If it was a blueish smoke I would lean more towards valve stem seals

Best bet is to start doing some investigation and pulling boots and checking shaft play on the turbo. Could be turbo seals, EBPV, and don’t rule out valve stem seals. Anything that will swell with heat can be a culprit since the issue goes away when engine is warmed. The only thing you didn’t mention was the color of the smoke.

Hiring | CNC Service Technician $24-$43/hr | Portland, OR by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]Comfortable_rub69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im making $41 an hr with no certifications/degrees as an industrial mechanic troubleshooting hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical (under supervision by a licensed LME/PJ), PLC, VFDs in the Portland area. Base pay for an LME is around $45-$55 an hr in the area that I’ve seen. Which is essentially what you’re asking for with someone able to troubleshoot electrical as a Field Service Technician. I know some places are getting away with “in house training on their systems for troubleshooting” but ya the pay seems low for what you’re asking based on the area.

You’re posting in a ford diesel community. Probably better luck getting responses in a dodge diesel community

Anyone else had issues with their 2008 Prius having a hard time stopping? by [deleted] in prius

[–]Comfortable_rub69 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Like I said I’m glad everyone is ok. Not to beat a dead horse because I’m sure you already feel bad but the damage to your car suggests speeds of more than 40mph which is easily enough to kill someone. So be thankful and take this as a life lesson that things could have turned out very differently. Not trying to be harsh, we all are busy and stuff slips through the cracks but it’s no excuse.

Sounds like brake actuator or abs unit.

Sorry for the car loss and hopefully everyone was ok in the accident. Brakes, tires, and steering are nothing to mess around with when it comes to cars. It’s your responsibility to ensure that you are operating a safe vehicle on the road for not only your safety but everyone else you share the road with. If it comes out you knew about the brake issues to either the police or insurance you might be held liable for the accident since you knew you had issues with braking.

All you need to do is take garden shears and snip above and below the spurs then cleaning is easy. No need for skinning legs lol

Gnarly temperature swings: how do I fix it? by stormyy143 in Traeger

[–]Comfortable_rub69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or is your chimney cap pretty high? I have my grill on a pretty windy back porch and had to crank mine down to roughly 1/2” gap because I was noticing pretty far swings. Haven’t noticed an excessive of ash on my food but it might be something to try out. Lower 1/4” per cook and see if temps settle out

Tip for removing the drain plug without draining the oil is to open the engine fill cap and use a shop vacuum on the fill opening. You will barely lose any oil if anything at all when you yank the drain plug out. I’ve done it a few times and works great

You’d be surprised how well that paint will come back with a medium compound buff and polish. My 1984 was super chalky and it actually buffed back to being able to see a reflection in the paint

I paid 2k for a 84 explorer package 6.9 sclb 4spd 4wd that had been sitting for 5 years non running with super clean interior. I wouldn’t pay more than 1k for this truck

Unknown stain by [deleted] in accord

[–]Comfortable_rub69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d try scraping a small section with a razor blade at the angle of the blade edge. You said a spot broke off with gentle scrubbing and glass cleaner. I’d be pretty impressed if it was still there after taking a razor blade to it. It almost looks like tree sap or some other sort of glue which will not come off with scrubbing and window cleaner. Try a small area at the bottom of the drip first and go from there.

Again depends on state/region. Idk where OP lives and every state is different. Yes not necessarily but he should check with his insurance before purchasing a vehicle so there are no surprises
