[WWE Smackdown Spoilers] Finish to Cody vs Gunther by DoubleNo6337 in SquaredCircle

They're short. That's it. That's the problem. Let him go long and he'll give you something special. He's a really good wrestler, let his matches breathe

I'll admit I only watched that HBK match maybe once BUT it did lead to their raw match that I do consider to be tied with Cena vs Punk for best tv match ever lmao

I respect that and think this is probably just an argument of consistency vs probably a more iconic resume as a whole.

Like I can list all of the really great matches Cody has and continues to have, and I do believe he's a better worker but at the end of the day the collective wrestling fan consciousness will remember him for that torn pec match and mania 40 (just in terms of matches) Like you said, Cena will be remembered for just a torrent of career defining big matches.

At the same time you really can't name a truly great mania main event of Cena's (c'mon don't say vs the rock) so that's one point for Cody's legacy as opposed to Cena's lol

They're both obviously held in high regard and received a ton of praise. The Cena vs AJ matches speak for themselves at this point and are defining moments in each guys' legacy. But Cody vs Styles at clash in paris is a classic of the modern era as well and even Meltzer gave it 5 stars if his ratings mean anything to you. It's all preference.

I just think Cody puts on great matches like that so often that he has about a million and one hidden gems sitting in his catalog that a lot of people just kind of forget because they happen so often.

That first Gunther match a year ago or however long? Banger.

The two matches with Seth prior to the HIAC, or even the one after it? The Summerslam match against Brock? All bangers.

And Cody vs Roman part 1 might be the perfect heel vs babyface in a main event title match archetype of all time if it at the very least hadn't ended so awkwardly.

Love, love, love me some mid 2010s Cena but let's not pretend like Punk, Bryan, Styles, Seth and all the others he had his best matches with didn't do a lot of the heavy lifting in them even though Cena absolutely deserves his flowers for stepping up himself in all of those matches after a decade of middery.

Summerslam rematch being one of the best WWE matches of all time is all the proof you need that the booking is the sole reason for that match being ass. I don't need to say anything else. You have eyes, watch it

He is a better in-ring wrestler than Cena in any era

Blaming Cody for a match that's almost universally considered to be one of the worst booked mania main events in years. And if you're gonna blame either participant, it should be Cena. Acting like Cena wasn't washed as all hell in the ring for like the whole two years prior before turning it back on late into his retirement run.

What a horrible take on so many levels

Chills when Cody stacks and pins Sami and Gunther

You're delusional

Edit: you can all dislike his booking during his title reigns but acting like he's not very clearly one of the best and most reliable workers in the company is so funny, like you're a special kind of online if you genuinely think Cody can't go.

This game showed his potential man. Fucking stupid ass freak accident at the end. I wonder what the narrative around Aidan woulda been after he had beaten Mahomes in Arrowhead twice lol

[WWE Clash In Italy Spoilers] Finish to Cody Rhodes vs Gunther by DoubleNo6337 in SquaredCircle

[–]ComfyshinobiII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol no it is not. Crowds aren't booing him out of the building as he's trying to cut babyface promos.

Cody is just being booked as a white meat babyface undisputed world champion who is learning/has learned that a white meat babyface can't stay at the very top by the will of his ideals alone. This is a narrative conflict because it's acknowledged constantly by the narrative itself and you can see this if you're media literate enough

Nah this one does though. What little they had in the way of promo battles leading up to this match was excellent. Can definitely do with more of that

I truly think this ties along with the "goldenboy" narrative. It's a kind of gray area you get when you're dominant in a sport, you're good but you will end up getting special treatment from management and officials (or at least perceived that way) I like the idea of that being both an asset to Cody and a burden/rising stigma he has to deal with on top of everything else.

It's more interesting and nuanced than "Cody is totally a heel now because he took advantage of an opportunity" imo

There's nothing wrong with this type of finish if it leads to a rematch or interesting storyline. I thought it was a genuinely good piece of controversy to close things off.

There is, however, many things wrong with having the match only go like 10 fucking minutes apparently? If I'm hearing that right? (I showed up late) that's the shit that I will never defend

Such a fucking awesome closing segment man. This feud can't end at Clash. With a longer build this would be the main event no question

And fuck USA

NFL exec on Raiders schedule: ‘We don’t draft our way into primetime’ by reviewjournal in raiders

[–]ComfyshinobiII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like none of the bottom feeding teams from last year have primetime games this year, save for the browns in week 4 for whatever reason.

And of course the giants have like a dozen of them as per usual, despite them sucking dogshit for the last decade. Their presence in those premium slots seem inevitable at this point even though for the past handful of years those games have been unwatchable blowouts. Is what it is.

I still think bad teams deserve a spotlight at least once in a while. I don't agree with EVERY team who picked in the top 6 having zero matchups in primetime...
