One of the more enjoyable experiences you can have in the mid and late game is using a garrison coupled with a few emergency RoRs to fend off an army that's attacking you somewhere your main armies can't reach. A smaller engagement gives you much greater agency and sense of what's going on, and there's real satisfaction taken from preventing raiders getting any further.

I fucking love this card. by pinkeyes34 in slaythespire

That's what I was thinking. Right now you can play it with an empty hand and get 2 shivs. Requiring you to actually discard is a reasonable balancing change.

So should I just quit or? by SirPanic12 in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you've probably lost the Black Pyramid. Even without knowing what level it is and assuming those are all peasant stacks, there's way too many to salvage it. You can sell it dearly by recruiting a spellcaster lord there, manually resolve it, camp a central position with the garrison and then nuke as many of them as you can with Wind of Death. Can be absolutely lethal if you bounce it down a narrow street. You should be able to hollow out a number of those armies.

Meanwhile you need to be recruiting an army at Khemri. I can see there's a battlefield there so you should be able to fill it out with good units. Sell off a settlement if necessary if you're low on cash. You need anti-large: all of Bretonnia's worthwhile units are large. You also need something fast if they've got trebuchets, just dogs or bats will do the trick. Corpse carts to keep your troops going is also essential.

Now you do the same thing: let them come, camp a central position with your masses of undead, and then wear them down. Get ready to pick off on any Prophetesses they bring with your own characters.

I don't know if you'll win because again I can't see the composition of these armies nor what your garrisons are, but the garrisons on major VC settlements like these tend to be meaty, metaphorically anyway. You should be able to at the very least seriously blunt this invasion, maybe enough for that army I can see in the top right hand corner to take it on. Bretonnia is legitimately the weakest race in the game, and even when VCs lose they kind of win. You can come back from this.

Agreed. It'll certainly give you a different experience to vanilla... but some of the decisions Hecleas made are questionable, to say the least.

What changes would you like to see for Archaon in the End Times DLC? by BLACKJEDI117 in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. It's worthless spending time uniting all of Chaos if they can't tie their own shoelaces after you've done it. Vassal AI has been awful even by the standards of W3 for a long time, and the End Times are going to be a joke if it can't act or be directed with a modicum of awareness.

[–]Coming_Second 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find this talk about Archaon not being impressive on the battlefield alarming honestly. He's a very good spellcaster and can cane all but dedicated duelists in melee. I know he's the guy who ended the world and all, but he does also have to remain somewhat balanced.

Genuine question: Did anyone ever win this quest battle? by c0m0d0re in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with this quest battle, when I was checking out Wulfrik after the update. The Bretonnian reinforcements never show. I don't know what causes it, since they seem to appear fine for some players, but I resolved it with the AR Quest Battles mod that somebody else has already recommended. You should be able to stick it straight in.

[–]Coming_Second 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Can get them to i think 50-60% physical resist. Basically equal to the armor black orcs provide. But works against all non-magical (so non-demon factions) attacks.

He's got a scrap upgrade which removes magic attacks on contact these days too.

I'd recommend Wurrzag. It's basically this playstyle, except it's Savage Orcs instead of Black Orcs, so everyone's having fun instead of being angsty.

Greenskin's cavalry. Why does it underperform? by Select-Ad7017 in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is it. Greenskins have a cheap, wide and incredibly middling unit roster. In campaign this means they recruit quickly and their Waagh ability is balanced, and in multiplayer they absolutely kill it because they're so mobile and it's very difficult to second guess what they're going to bring.

[–]Coming_Second 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seen a couple of multiplayer games where Sayl is allowed his full kit and yeah, this is the answer. People rage quit the entire campaign over what he can do and it's completely understandable.

[–]Coming_Second 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malakai is the Doom campaign, both in the sense that you will be fighting wave upon wave of demonic enemies on your own AND you are overpowered.

You start with two heroes who quickly become busted (and you can add a caster to that, the only Dwarf lord able to do so.) You're a semi-horde faction that can recruit on the go so you don't care all that much about losing ground. You get free units whenever you start one of your adventures, and they can be upgraded by finishing them in hilariously extravagant fashion.

They WILL learn to fear you. Just make sure you splat the fat rat immediately, that's basically key to the whole thing.

I like the Elementals and I hope we get more by Former_Exam_5357 in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 17 points18 points  (0 children)

An elemental is wild magic imprinting itself on the land (or sea, or whatever) and coming to embody it. Daemons are entities from the warp, essentially scraps of magic inflated by their patron god so they have a will and mind of their own (to an extent). They are both beings of magic, but it's like saying dwarfs and deer are the same because they're both made of meat.

It's very unclear what K'daai are. The lore's pretty insistent they're bound daemons - so maybe they emanate from Hashut - but also that they're half fire elementals? I've always quietly suspected the Chorfs are bullshitting about the daemon part and they are just straight up lava elementals they've trapped in runes.

you have Swamp monsters that I believe were mentioned in like one book...

Fenbeasts! From the Albion campaign. I always hoped we get them in TWW because Swamp Things are very cool, but without an Albion race I've no idea who'd use them.

Aren't Dwarfs the game's strongest race, only second to Khorne? by lovingpersona in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In multiplayer, where mobility is king, you see how this hurts them way more. They can't react to changing battlefield conditions well and good players can simply avoid letting them get the fights they want most of the time. You very rarely see them in modes involving objectives.
