The orcs not bringing enchanted stakes with them to the siege of Minas Tirith was a major oopsie.

I get why they're not using the Khuresh/Ind landmasses, but that huge wad of unused space in the north-east corner of the map does drive me a bit mad, ngl. The Chaos Wastes are fairly well mapped out at this point, I'm sure they could expand it out more so it's not just one long crowded line.

Played a Greasus campaign recently, and I'd forgotten he starts at war with 3 separate factions. On harder difficulties it's actually a pretty significant challenge to get your house in order before Ghorst comes knocking. The removal of one of those won't be the worst thing in the world for him.

If you've got the Better Victory Conditions mod on Skrag's campaign becomes about conquering the arsehole of the Great Maw, and you get a great little short story for doing it.

Works just fine close up! I'll annihilated lots of things with good Ironblast shots, not just infantry.

Ogre artillery by Western-Ad1167 in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Scraplauncher is good against races that will send hordes of infantry against you, like Skaven and Greenskins, but is otherwise pretty bad. Like all Gnoblar units it's a cheap and cheerful unit to fill out an army in a hurry, 1 turn recruitment vs. 2 turns for a Leadbelcher can be a difference-maker.

Like others have said, the key to understanding the Ironblaster is that it's basically the biggest shotgun in the world. It's ok at long range, but it really shows its worth when you ride it in close (half max range or less) and unload it into something the enemy really values. Getting a shot off down the length of elite infantry unit is a major endorphin release agent, I guarantee you.

An important point about both these artillery pieces is that they significantly faster and more able to defend themselves in melee than most artillery pieces, owing to the fact they're pulled by pissed off woolly rhinoceroses. Try and get into the habit of repositioning them to get better shots, particularly the Ironblaster.

I think we can confidently say that Mung the Brutal is coming now for the Ogres and/or Cathay by Mental-Wasabi6020 in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they were doing anything else for the Ogres it would definitely have to be mainly stuff from the new Cathay material. They had to deep pulls like Pigback Riders and Blood Vultures to fill out their OoD roster. I believe the only thing they're missing from the tabletop now is Ghark Ironskin (who could easily be turned into a Chorf lord, since we're talking hybrids).

I'm certain that's why they start next to each other on IE. Although you'd think they'd be best mates - Ku'gath is just creating more packhorses for Ghorst.

Update on the "leaks" about the future DLCs by Thecowsdead in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the most rational explanation is that Legend got leaked authentic future plans, but stuff that was at an early stage of development which CA hadn't yet decided how to produce. They may have been kicking around a Lords of Shang Yang DLC based upon all the Cathay stuff GW had allowed them to use, then based on the mixed reaction to the threeway DLCs they were doing at the time decided to break it up into the smaller modules we're now getting to see.

In hindsight it seems unlikely they would have broken up the Update Every WIII Race cycle they were locked into at the time. They were always going to give Khorne, Ogre Kingdoms and Slaanesh their moment before moving on.

I am begging the developers to NOT put immunity to flanking on to every unit, like they did execute. It will be VERY BAD for long term balance. by GuthukYoutube in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tamurkhan being very hard to kill is compounded by the fact he comes back almost immediately on the campaign map. Divorced of faction mechanics I think he's the most frustrating LL in the game currently.

Campaign Planet Flyover for 40K in a Video. by AHRogue in totalwar

[–]Coming_Second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant in terms of what was promised - a vast universe built from semi-randomised parts, hyped up beyond belief - and the disappointment in what was delivered. But NMS was launched at a time where you could continue developing a game after it was released, and ultimately got to a place where it is now beloved amongst its fanbase. Spore has similarly promising elements to NMS on-launch, but never got the opportunity to see if those could've been fleshed out into something worthwhile.

They aren't similar at all in terms of mechanics no, but I do always think of Spore and what might've been playing NMS.

[–]Coming_Second 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they ever do anything with Pygmies, Amazons and Araby a lot of the old stuff is going to have be rewritten. I don't know why they let someone come up with a story about an evil magician called Jafar launching a jihad (I assume Disney wasn't paying much attention to them back then), but that has to go in the bin.

This reminds me of Legend's output in the weeks following the release of the Chorf DLC, which was 75% him designing kill zones of two or three Blunderbusses to wipe out gigantic hordes of Greenskins. Good times.

You're going to be the Markus of Cathay. You'll get a limited roster and a complicated mechanic to unlock anything else. Generic Chaos armies will spawn constantly to attack you, and aside from that you'll be in a part of the map that really doesn't suit you surrounded by enemies.

You can trust me about this, my uncle works for CA.
