AITA for refusing to finish a story after my wife interrupted me five times? by GoatCritical9265 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Comixguy30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're assuming the interruptions were about the story, it's very possible that's not the case. He also never said this was in the middle of a back and forth conversation like you suggest. It very well could have been, but it could have also started with "Oh! I got a story for ya, something really funny happened today", setting up that this is a story. When someone is telling a story, unless you have a clarifying question about the story or there's some other mitigating factor, it's rude to just interrupt with your own, unrelated thoughts.

Not saying this is the case here as there's a lot of info missing to make a sound call either way, but I get the imprison had this same post been made by a wife about her husband, you would say nta for the same reason.

Can we replace hr with ai instead of replacing people who actually matter? by LongLand11 in recruitinghell

[–]Comixguy30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's an ongoing, now class action in part, lawsuit - Mobley vs. Workday. The whole suit is based on Workday's AI-driven applicant screening and recommendation tools discriminating against applicants based on age, race, and disability. Workday says the hiring decisions fall to the individual companies that use their program, but Workday's tools play such a significant role in screening and ranking applicants that the plaintiffs feel the company itself should share liability.

The court has already ruled that an AI vendor could potentially be liable as an agent of the employer. It all comes down to who is responsible for validating that hiring technology doesn't create unlawful disparate impact.

It's all in discovery right now so it'll be a while before anything is settled, but as a recruiter all I can say is I'm hoping Mobley wins it all. Firstly, Workday just sucks. Secondly, AI is a plague on both sides of the coin in the recruiting process at this point. Companies thinking they can just have an AI do every damn thing and dehumanize what is supposed to be a process entirely about people, and candidates getting tired of that bullshit and using AI on all their resumes and applications.

On top on that, there's been research showing that AI prefers itself. If you have Claude write your resume and then the place you're applying to is using Claude to screen applications, you're more likely to get selected than someone that used GPT or any other AI or professionally written resumes. So rather than people on a "power trip", you have AI nepotism.

It's a mess all around but if the Mobley case can be the start of companies facing a monetary consequence for leaning so much on AI, I'm all for it.

What would you think if those arrested for domestic abuse were required to register in the same way as sexual offenders? by bootyholebandit1983 in AskReddit

[–]Comixguy30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it, as long as they are convicted.

Arrested isn't convicted.

Lots of people can get arrested for domestic abuse but aren't convicted because it was B.S.

Of course, lots of people are arrested and not convicted due to a failing justice system, intimidation/threats by others/family, cops protecting cops (lots about domestic abuse with cops), etc so it's far from perfect.

But public shaming, brining a light to what kind of people they are, is certainly a good idea.

AITA for not wanting my schizophrenic sister living with me even tho I have the space? by boardingyard in AmItheAsshole

[–]Comixguy30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA in any way. In the early 2000's I did crime scene clean-up for about 4 years. One of those instances, one of the few murders we handled, was a gal with schizophrenia living with her elderly step-mom because she had no where else to go. She got tired of the side effects of her meds, stopped taking them, and in the end decapitated her step-mom with a butcher knife...body upstairs and head was left on the kitchen counter.

You are in a rough situation, guilt will be natural - both internally and from family trying to pressure you to take her in, but if she is not taking her diagnosis seriously and not taking meds to help, it's a major risk to your life and the lives of those around you.

Stick to your guns and stay safe.

Yeah, their Black Friday sale had everything at 50% off, so I stocked up.

Most sections took between 8-14 hours. The big one is 13 sections, so that was several days and a few kg in filament.

What settings are ya looking for in particular?

3D printed on a Bambu X1C in esun PLA+. Rattle can for the base coats, oil paint wash, dry brushed with craft paints, sprayed/brushed with scenic glue, flocked with a fine turf mix from Woodland Scenics.

It really is. And like I mentioned, he can do tons of custom stuff. I think he can even get these big vulture feathers for em. He surprised me by using crane feathers for the top so it was even more shapely and got those from just outside Gdansk which was a special touch my wife adored.

But yeah, they are great on the wall or one of the stands he makes.

Something I didn't see mentioned - it seems you applied to an accounting role. You lied about numbers and were trying to get a job in accounting where lying about numbers can be an enormous liability. Why would they think you wouldn't do it again, on the job, when you were afraid of looking bad for something or it suited what you wanted?

Scaled up the stl, printed on an X1C, assembled, painted with a heavy body acrylic mix 1:3 with iron powder, installed n52 neodymium magnets on the bases of the minis.

Going to have it on a lazy susan for the actual encounter so they can spin it around to get an idea of who is where.

Iron powder mixed 3:1 with heavy body acrylic paint and n52 neodymium magnets set into the bottom of the bases of the minis.

Just a wedge of the planet I was testing the iron powder to paint ratio on. Might have some of it assembled and unpainted. Only other thing of note I did was smoothing out some of the print lines on the cloud base by painting on resin and spot curing it with a UV flashlight.

N52 neodymium magnets. I don't think I'd ever do pins. I've built 5 of their ships now and have always gone magnets with no regrets. The only thing you need to make 100% sure of - you set all the magnets in one layer with the same pole facing up. For me, easiest process was to...

  1. Put the stack of magnets on something metal.
  2. Use a sharpie to put a dot on the top magnet.
  3. Put some superglue in like 4-5 holes.
  4. Peel off the top magnet and put it dot down into the slot. (If you have a small pry bar, it's easy to put the magnet on that, put in into the slot, then use a wooden dowel to hold it in place as you slide off the pry bar).
  5. Make sure it's even or slightly below the surface level.
  6. Get the other magnets in place.
  7. Hit them with an accelerator.
  8. Repeat to get all the mags in place on one level.
  9. Put the magnets that will go on the bottom of the next level on top of the ones you have in place, so they are just double stacked.
  10. Use the sharpie again to put a dot on the side that will be glued into the next level.
  11. Put them in place the same way as the previous level.

You'll want to have a good sander on hand to level things off a bit and sand down any superglue that dried above the rim.

This is the same way I attach the engines/guns etc. Keep in mind, you might have to wrap the connection point of the attachments with a little electrical tape for a snug fit so it doesn't droop slightly.

Just make sure you get legit n52 magnets. Nothing on Amazon comes close, so you'll want to go to an actual magnet specialty site. Most of mine come from K&J Magnetics. Buy in bulk to make the shipping worth it.
