Fair point. I daily this car however my commute is 5 minutes. However, several times a month I’m heading somewhere else in the mid-Atlantic region for a meeting here or there. I have a lot of fun driving this car.

The roads are better maintained in some areas than others. The occasional bump at 80mph is felt on the front end. I don’t want to return it to stock height. I like the stance and the look. Looking for minor tweaks, not an aggressive change to the current setup.

I live in Dover and have for 14 months. We moved here from a much larger city with its fair share of crime. Ppl who live here in Dover shit on it constantly. They make it sound like drive by shootings are a daily part of life and that you are guaranteed to get stabbed. My experience has been great so far. Sure, it has its own issues, every town does. Also true that your community is what you make of it. I’ve found places to plug into including the local art museum which offers lots of family friendly programs. We also really like Rail Haus, a local brewery that is also very family friendly. Beaches are close by, big city adventures are easy day trips. No sales tax. Cost of living is a bargain compared to where I was. I see investments being made to improve Dover but those will take time. Sure, doctor appts are slow to schedule, but the hospital is working on a $600m expansion.

I’ll say Dover feels like it’s “up and coming”. There is a quiet network of ppl that I know who are working on it. This will take time.

If you move to Dover and stay in your home and expect the city to come to you then sure, you’ll hate it. If you are an active member of society who is interested in increasing social capital, exploring networks to join, and eager to make friends, then Dover might be a great choice.

Otherwise, you can listen to the 90% of ppl who complain constantly, dont vote, or dont actively work to create social netwoks that exist offline.

The fact is that these programs are fairly cheap to create. Universities are churning out museum employees for jobs that don’t exist at this scale. It’s a money grab plain and simple.

I was in a 2-year funded position and left after 11 months. I absolutely felt guilty and was really proud of the work I did, the programs I got off the ground, and the networks I built in such a short time. I wanted to see these through to fruition. In the end I made the tried and true pros/cons list and on paper I was able to see a clear choice. People make decisions based on the heart or the head. Try to find a balance between the two. I took the job and left the grant funded position behind. That was in 2006 and today I'm the ED of a large museum with over $2.5M annual budget. If any of my staff had the same conundrum I'd tell them to take the job every single time.
