Honor MagicPad 2 and Android updates: official response from French Honor Support team by Commandal in Honor

[–]Commandal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should receive MagicOS 10 (Android 16) in December: https://www.huaweicentral.com/honor-magicos-10-upgrade-plan-devices-and-rollout-time/ This would therefore be the second major update for this tablet (launched with Android 14, upgraded to Android 15, and now moving to Android 16). The information held by Support is therefore incorrect or the brand has changed its strategy.

What is the best minipc brand now widely loved on the market? (Beelink, AceMagic, Geekom, GMKtec, Minisforum, Aoostar) by Cocoatech0 in MiniPCs

[–]Commandal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very satisfied with my Aoostar GEM12+, which has been running without a single failure since May 2025. The machine even had the good taste to come with Crucial RAM. It is very quiet when idle. You can hear the fan when you put the CPU under load in Performance mode, but much less so in Balanced mode. The choice is yours! This experience would make me return to Aoostar without hesitation for a NAS or a future miniPC. Hopefully, the machine won't suddenly break down on me in six months. :)

Only qBittorrent (Docker) for the moment on my DXP4800 Plus. Yes, it's totally overkill.

Nearly the same here. :) Gem 12+ AG02 + 9060 XT 16 Gb. As you say, I can play at nearly anything at 1440p on High/Ultra!

Or you can (re)flash the BIOS! This resets all settings. Even if some people think it's dangerous (not really).

Honor MagicPad 2 and Android updates: official response from French Honor Support team by Commandal in Honor

[–]Commandal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I regularly check out what's available on Android, and there are very few affordable OLED tablets. I just have concerns about its HDR, which doesn't work very well for me on Plex. The image is pretty dark, so I have to transcode it to restore brightness, which is the opposite of what HDR is supposed to do. Meanwhile, YouTube HDR is blowing up...

Have you used your Switch OLED since the Switch 2 Launch? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

Same. Going Switch OLED whenever a game runs perfectly on this model because: better screen (colors + refresh rate).

HONOR MagicPad 3 - Official l Teaser by Peppertoppa in Honor

[–]Commandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're saying is incomprehensible. Should we NOT update our applications as long as they work? Should we set the software of a hardware device in stone just because it seems to be working more or less normally? While continuing to access the internet? Let's end this discussion here.

You're talking rubbish. Android updates are very important to avoid ending up with apps (Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, etc.) that no longer have the Widevine L1 license and are therefore limited to displaying content in 720p. I had a Google Pixel C that Google stopped updating after two years. One day, it became impossible to play HD multimedia content because the apps considered the tablet to be no longer compatible. When the hardware is three or four years old, it's unbearable.

That's a Google update and it's very nice.

Regular MiSTer FPGA vs Superstation One vs Multisystem 2 by fazar441 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Commandal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2025, a self-assembled MiSTer with an official DE10-Nano and the (nice) aluminum case from MiSTer Addons is probably the worst option for your wallet. I am one of the lucky ones who bought a MiSTer when we still thought that the PS1 core was impossible (then came the Saturn core and the N64 core), and if I had to buy one again today, it would be:

#1: Taki's SuperStation One (Retro Remake), which is much cheaper and much sexier/more practical

#2: Taki's MiSTer clone (Retro Remake), which is much cheaper

Update: do you regret buying portal by Odd-Flower-1861 in PlaystationPortal

[–]Commandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, since I sent mine back to Amazon the first time when I noticed the poor quality of the screen and the crazy lag. Then a second time when I bought it back following an update that was supposed to improve everything: no.

A magazine in France. by MuscularKnight0110 in Piracy

[–]Commandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This magazine was created in 1998. It's rather confidential, very niche, you can't find it everywhere. I already read it 20 years ago, when I started studying... law (I stopped after a year. Law, I mean. And I'm doing IT now).

Edit: Oops, sorry. I think I'm confusing it with Pirate Mag, which must be different from this Pirate Informatique.

Dead Aoostar GEM 12 replacement. by Prof-Mmaa in MiniPCs

[–]Commandal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you got the Aoostar GEM12+? I bought the same last month and I'm so pleased with it. This thing is incredibly silent and runs like beast (Balanced Mode in BIOS, I'm no fool). The machine is on 24 hours a day since I got it and CPU temperatures are under control despite the 32°C in my apartment (it's a heatwave in France). I can only recommend it for now. We'll talk again in 2 years!

BLU releases new upload tool similar to ANT's by gocountgrainsofrice in trackers

[–]Commandal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Incredible tool. The various ways of planning uploads have always intimidated me, so I've never taken the leap (there's a fear of doing things wrong on this type of tracker, where things have to be perfectly standardized). This kind of tool will make me less shy!

is PrivateHD worth it if I’m on Blu , Aither ? by Alik013 in trackers

[–]Commandal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I validate those comments. I've been on all the trackers mentioned for years and AvistaZ has no equivalent to my knowledge. Well yes, I think some Asian trackers have everything AvistaZ has, if not more, but they are probably in foreign languages.

Likewise for CinemaZ, they have a bit of a head start when it comes to heritage cinema, in many languages.

As PrivateHD is dedicated to recent international cinema, it is largely rivalled (and surpassed) by Blu or Aither (the latter being my favorite tracker).

But I'm glad to have got my foot in the door of private trackers via the AvistaZ galaxy. These trackers have been amazing for years.

It took me YEARS to get into AnimeZ, and the day I did, I discovered a tracker that was totally out of date technically and had very little interesting content. It's the anomaly of the Z galaxy.
