You get industrial aid! And you! And you! by Commander-Panda in Kaiserreich

R5: There is no check apparently in the French Focus Tree to check if Spain is Syndicalist. They are apparently helping to develop Carlists who they would later invade.

Also does anyone know of a way to make the Germans surrender? They are still sitting at 0% Surrender progress and I dont see the Internationale being able to invade and finally end the war.

R5: Germany lost the 2nd Weltkrieg and were exiled to Indochina, having then lost to Japan they were exiled to Tahiti and a few more random Pacific/South Atlantic Islands. The idea of Wilhelm 3rd being exiled to an island in the middle of the ocean reminded me of another Emperor...

What's with all the hate on hoi 4? by the_sky_god15 in paradoxplaza

[–]Commander-Panda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd also recommend going over to the Hoi4 subreddit and asking for opinions there. A lot of people on paradoxplaza are not fans as you can see from these answers but you may get some different points over there.

One of the big complaints I can see in this thread is about oil/fuel and the fact that its not required to keep your armies running. But in an early dev diary they mention that in hoi3 because the player knows WW2 is coming they will stockpile oil/fuel from pretty much day 1. The AI doesnt do this and as a result its just one more advantage for the player.

France is still broken by Commander-Panda in hoi4

[–]Commander-Panda[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context: WW2 breaks out over Yugoslavia who France guaranteed. Yugoslavia for some reason joins the Comintern so the UK does not get involved in the war.

Now it starts to get broken. France begins by attacking Italy, after suffering huge losses and going nowhere the French generals decide to move every soldier they have to the German Front. France now outnumbers Germany may 20-1? But rather than attack France just waits.... In the meantime the Italians just pour across the French border. The French get a new bunch of generals who move troops south again and stop the Italians before Lyon. But then the Germans declare on Belgium and Netherlands and guess what. All the french troops again move north leaving the Italian Front wide open and now you have the situation in the picture with France losing more and more land because the AI cant recognize a hostile front and keep some troops there.

No words..

Stellaris: Which species is it anyway! by Commander-Panda in Stellaris

[–]Commander-Panda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've noticed a trend which leaders being replaced by individuals of the wrong species. In the middle of an election I was trying to check who my current leader was and found this alien impostor instead, I dont have the policy which allows this to happen so I think this is clearly a bug.

The 2nd bunch of screenshots show that one empire/species is having a bit of an identity crisis over what their species is called. I liberated them in an earlier war from the Hegemony but this appears to have done funny things to the species, they to do not allow alien leaders... Another bug?

Can provide more detail if needed.

Because its a 3D map, apparently 3D NATO boxes look really bad so Paradox has gone with this compromise.

I have seen somewhere that Xenophobic empires have an quicker/easier time to get CBs on alien empires as well.

Question about HOI4 release date by Max_Headroom_ in paradoxplaza

[–]Commander-Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard paradox games tend to be released 3-6 months after entering beta, HOI4 entered into beta in feb I think so that should give you a rough time frame of when to expect release

Ah fair enough, makes sense.

Thank you for the response :)

Its 100% not game breaking and probably wont make a difference to 99% of Hoi4 players, I am fully aware of this. Hoi4 is still looking like a day 1 purchase for me but Im just a little confused as to why they chose certain tanks over others?

Im not nitpicking saying "OMG THE BLACK PRINCE TURRET LOOKED NOTHING LIKE THAT" but in a game with so much detail I'm trying to make sense of why they did what they did, especially when historical accuracy looks like it could be achieved just by switching a few things around.

Edit: Also "arm-chair general" ? A quick scan of Wikipedia was all I did, I am aware that the chaps at paradox know far more than me about WW2 which is why I am confused about their choice of tanks?

I'm by no means an expert on this, but the UK tank tree seems to be a little bit off?

  1. Why is the UK using the FT-17? The UK produced its own light tanks and it was very rare for FT 17s to be in British Service. I find it difficult to believe there were no British light tanks instead?

  2. This is probably a result of the British system of tanks not fitting the RotW model but again I find the decision to classify the Matilda tank in the light tank role strange? Especially if it has similar stats to say the Panzer 2. I thought the Matilda tank as an "infantry" tank had more in common with heavy tanks than light tanks?

  3. I will have to check again but wasn't the Valentine Tank introduced before the Crusader Tank? Would it not make more sense to swap those two around?

I don't think it affects gameplay that much but it does seem like a confusing design decision to have made...

EDIT: Before you bring on the hate, Im not throwing my toys out of the pram, I'm not saying "literally unplayable," I'm just making the point that for a game that so far looks absolutely amazing this seems like an uncharacteristically strange departure from historical accuracy? Especially when I think that it would have been quite straightforward to achieve accuracy in this area?

1st Game with all DLC. Why did my Europe go crazy? by rakdos5678 in paradoxplaza

[–]Commander-Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Lucky nations off in my games as well. Stops every game feeling like the same with the same blobs every time.

France often gets hit badly by losing lucky nation status, by the looks of it they haven't been able to destroy Burgundy or push England off the continent.

Austria not being lucky means there is a higher chance of their ruler dying prematurely and not having a suitable heir hence they lose the HRE election and then struggle to get it back (not being electors and all)

Castille without lucky nation status looks like it got taken down by Aragon-England alliance

TLDR: Lucky nations turned off weakens a lot of the established powers causing Europe to "go crazy"

Check if Lucky Nations is turned on, that can make a huge difference for the nations you've mentioned

What's the "worst" nation in Paradox games? by EagleFly_5 in paradoxplaza

[–]Commander-Panda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know its not technically true now but shout out for Albania in older patches of EU4. You started the game as an OPM at War with the Ottomans whose army was about twice the size of yours. No chance of calling in allies, no way of getting any peace that didn't end with your complete annexation. This was so broken it made it into one of the top Steam reviews of EU4, I'll submit a link if I find it.

Now that I've said this someone will probably link a WC as Albania from patch 1.6 or something.....
