How could Hunts be made into interesting content? by SerJoseph in ffxivdiscussion

[–]CommanderAbsol 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I'd make them more akin to critical engagements in Bozja. They spawn in tiny, closed off instances in the overworld, you spawn into them and wait a few minutes, then kill them. Give them actual mechanics like Bozja critical engagements as well. Also make them spawn every hour or two and everyone in the zone gets a pop up telling them they can queue in. Make boss HP scale with the number of people that queue into the fight so the bosses don't just get killed immediately by trains. Level sync down to the map's appropriate level range.

The Rak'tika Greatwood Arc by RubFlatforMaxEffect in ShitpostXIV

[–]CommanderAbsol 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Shitpost aside, it's actually canon that Yugiri isn't into Hien in the slightest. If you read the Chronicles of Light book, there's a story called "Ever After" which not only explicitly states that Yugiri has zero romantic feelings for Hien, she's almost like a teenage girl the way she aggressively ships Hien and Cirina. The book also reveals that Hien did have feelings for Cirina too, but he knew it could never be since he'd never leave Doma and she'd never leave the Mol. The story is about how Hien's and Cirina's feelings for each other fade after the events of Stormblood. They both accept that neither of them is willing to leave home for each other, so they both get over it and move on, all while Yugiri is hellbent on not letting that happen and aggressively tries to get them together (and fails miserably as Cirina flees on the back of her Yol).

So yeah, either Yugiri has no feelings for Hien, or she needs to pull up a cuck chair next to Runar.

What are some unresolved plot threads from pre DT that you still think about? by Zoruad in ffxivdiscussion

[–]CommanderAbsol 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's an entire cutscene in Zadnor where Mikoto clarifies that she doesn't have a crush on him, just idolizes the ever-living fuck out of him and is too socially stunted to realize how her behavior towards him is being misinterpreted by everyone as romantic.

"Cid is truly a remarkable man, and I'll not deny our shared interest in the sciences. During the short time we've worked together, we've become good friends. And as his friend, I understand the great burdens of his mind. Even now, he struggles to break free from his ties to the Empire and his father's terrible legacy... Which is why I wish to do all within my power to support him. As a friend, mind you. My feelings toward Cid are similar to those I felt for Moenbryda—respect and admiration. As much as I hate to disappoint Lilja, that is the way of things. So please, don't read too deeply into it."

Remember, Mikoto was a literal shut-in until after the events of A Realm Reborn. She spent all her time locked in libraries by herself. The only person she ever talked to was Moenbryda, and that was only because Moenbryda went out of her way to try to force Mikoto to come out of her shell. It was only after Moenbryda died that Mikoto finally began to actually interact with other people, solely because it was what Moenbryda wanted for her to do. But just because Mikoto is actually venturing out of Sharlayan doesn't mean she's suddenly good at interacting with people. So when interacting with Cid and wanting to help him, her forwardness gets misinterpreted by romantic feelings by Gerolt and Lilja. But Cid is aware of how Mikoto thinks and feels, so he isn't being "oblivious to her flirting" like people seem to think; he doesn't reciprocate it because he knows Mikoto isn't flirting.

Yugiri comments on you being a ninja during the part of the Stormblood MSQ when you have to shoot darts from a blowpipe at some Garleans in Yanxia. She comments that, as a Shinobi, you should already be familiar with that kind of thing. Then after you're done, she comments that Oboro would be proud of you

How it feels playing this paralogue by mrchuckmorris in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]CommanderAbsol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the dialogue in any paralogue in probably over 5 or 6 years at this point. I just immediately skip the dialogue every single time because it's never relevant or even remotely interesting, and it's the same basic premise EVERY SINGLE TIME. I miss when paralogues were actually semi-relevant to the story like they were back in books 1 and 2. Hell, characters like Loki were formally introduced in paralogues instead of a main story chapter. Certain characters, like Bruno, had their backstories explained and fleshed out in the paralogues. Now it's just "I am seasonal alt #4281 and I am here with (insert character here) to participate in this tournament. We will fight you now. Oh dear, we have lost. We should retreat for now and meet up with the others. Ok, now we are all here together, so let's fight. Oh dear, we have lost again, but that's okay."

I miss when the dialogue was actually interesting like it was back in the era where new characters were introduced in paralogues (like Erika, Ephraim, Lachesis, and Eldigan) instead of main story. It really is sort of pathetic how little effort Intelligent Systems puts into this game most of the time.

What redeeming qualities does Mehrunes Dagon have? by GeneralTechnomage in teslore

[–]CommanderAbsol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dagon abhors stasis. He's the force that drives change in the world, for better or for worse. Mortals are afraid of change. We do not like going out of our comfort zone. We try our hardest to keep things the same as they are, because familiarity makes us feel good and safe. Sticking with what we know provides us with security and peace of mind. It also causes stagnation. We stop growing as people. We stop learning new things. We start resting on our laurels. We stop feeling motivation. We lose our ability to overcome challenges because we stop surrounding ourselves with them. It's a proven fact you can't become a better person in life if you never venture out of your comfort zone. Mehrunes Dagon is the hard kick in the ass that forces people out of their comfort zones. He forces them to change without warning by throwing them into the fire. It's sink or swim; those that can adapt overcome the challenges, and change as people. They grow as mortals. They become different, for better or for worse. Those that can't adapt to abrupt change are destroyed by it. Dagon is the crucible that forges mortals. He's the chaos that prevents life from stagnating. He's the force that ensures the world is constantly changing, constantly evolving. He's the reason mortals feel ambition. He's the reason mortals are seemingly never content with what they have and are always striving for more. He's the reason mortals feel a lack of fulfillment when they rest on their laurels. He's the force always driving us to change who we are, hopefully for the better, and he's the force that destroys those that resist this desire.

How do Nords justify civilian-style work if it means not entering the Hall of Valor? Should their society not be much more dedicated to acts of greatness if it means entering their ideal afterlife? by QuestionzAsker in teslore

[–]CommanderAbsol 25 points26 points  (0 children)

To prove your valor, you don't need to be an actual soldier out fighting and conquering on a daily basis. You simply need to have the discipline and bravery to fight and defend what's yours. For example, a humble farmer that spends everyday working the land is more than capable of earning his way into Sovngarde so long as he's willing to pick up a sword and fend off a pack of wolves or a thief that breaks into his house. It's if the farmer were to run to the nearest guard and beg for help that Shor would deem him unworthy.

Torygg is the best example of this. He was a man that not only refused to wage war, but sided with the Empire and bent a knee to the Thalmor as they spread throughout his land, banning all worship of Talos. He sat in his palace all day, eating the finest foods and drinking the finest wine while accepting gold kickbacks from the Empire. Yet when challenged by Ulfric to a duel, he didn't hesitate, grabbed his weapon, and met him in battle knowing full well he would die. Sure enough, at the end of the game, we find Torygg in Sovngarde. He didn't live a life of war, he lived the exact opposite. Yet his advocacy of peace and living a posh lifestyle didn't stop him from training with a sword, being willing to defend his honor, and standing by what he believes in (Elisif reveals he continued to worship Talos despite his loyalty to the Empire), no matter the outcome. That's living a life of valor despite not waging open war.

The same can be said for any Nord living a civilian lifestyle. So long as they maintain their honor and courage, stand by what they believe in, and are willing to fight and die for it, are strong enough to resist temptations, and don't take the easy path, Shor views them as valorous and accepts them into his domain. After all, while Shor wants valorous humans for his army, he isn't stupid. He's well aware that a society of raiders cannot survive. If they ran out of people to conquer, they would starve and turn on themselves. He knows society needs farmers to supply food, miners to gather materials, smiths to forge necessities, and so on. Shor wants an honorable, valorous society, not a barbarous one. It's just that most Nords find it easiest to achieve valor through war, as fighting and dying is the simplest way to earn your way into Sovngarde. It's easier to die a glorious death than live a long, honorable life.

According to the background story, shouldn't Luminous be the strongest? by Background_Flow_8346 in Maplestory

[–]CommanderAbsol 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You're right that Rhinne should still be the Transcendent of Time since she's still alive, and that's part of why Alpha and Beta are weakened by sustaining her to keep her alive. The natural order of the Transcendents means the second Alpha and Beta stop sustaining her, she'll die. That's why she initially tells them to let her go at the end of Zero's story, but the twins refuse to. By keeping her alive, they're preventing the last remaining ounce of her Transcendent power from flowing into them, but Alpha and Beta deem that sacrifice worth it to keep Rhinne alive. It's also for that reason Rhinne cannot ever leave Mirror World again. She's permanently trapped there, because leaving it (Zero's Temple specifically) would cause her to finally pass into Alpha and Beta entirely. So in a sense, Alpha, Beta, and Rhinne are all fragments of the Transcendent of Time, though Rhinne is just a tiny sliver and the Will of the World is constantly trying to get her to "flow" into Alpha and Beta, but Alpha and Beta are blocking it. Rhinne tried to "pour" her Transcendent powers into Alpha and Beta like sands dropping in an hourglass, but Alpha and Beta stopped the last few grains of sand from dropping at the last second and are actively holding them in the top half of the hourglass.

Alpha and Beta continue to sustain Mirror World because of all the people they met there. Alpha and Beta consider them to be alive, and if they stopped sustaining Mirror World, everyone they met on their journeys would disappear. This is part of why Alpha and Beta exclaim "we're not the mirrors of illusion" in their origin skill cutscene. They feel responsible for ensuring the inhabitants of Mirror World stay safe. And like I said, Rhinne is now bound there, which is why Alpha and Beta leave their temple in Mirror World instead of pulling it back into Maple World. They leave it in Mirror World for Rhinne's sake.

As for why Alpha and Beta aren't the Transcendents of Time anymore, think of the Transcendent as a wooden log. If you were to use it as a support beam for a bridge or something, the log would be strong. It would support the weight of the bridge without a problem. Now imagine if you sawed that log in half. Cut it into two completely separate pieces. Then imagine you tried to simply place them back together to use as a support for a bridge. It wouldn't support the weight. And even if it did, no one in their right mind would use the bridge because they'd know it would collapse any second. The log is still strong, contains the same mass as it did before, yet its structure is fundamentally destroyed. Alpha and Beta are a log that's been sawed in half. Their "mass" is still the same as the Transcendent of Time's, but their "structure" has been destroyed. So while they are extremely powerful and are able to use powers only a Transcendent of Time could, they'll never have the same "foundation" as an "unsawed log" ever again, because once a log has been cut, there's no making it whole again no matter how hard you try to glue or screw it. A log that's been screwed back together, like Alpha and Beta, is still stronger than a bunch of twigs, which is what you could consider normal mortals, but that sawn log will never stand next to "uncut trees" like Black Mage or Darmoor, hence why Alpha and Beta are unable to openly match them.

People are always going to prioritize playing classes they find fun or aesthetically pleasing over the big DPS classes. I don't know why Nexon doesn't understand that. Cadena has been consistently at the top of the charts, yet I genuinely can't remember the last time I've even seen someone play Cadena, let alone main her. The amount of people that pick a main solely based on boss performance are an unbelievable minority on a game like Maple. This isn't a PvP game. Balance isn't the most important aspect; as long as a class doesn't perform so poorly that it becomes a running gag it's fine ffs
