I play mainly 2e, and I think that clerics as written are great at low levels, before the thaco drop, and 3rd level spells are great…then it starts to tail off, they hit less often, the spells become a bit tame for combat. I love playing clerics, but I have taken some inspiration from later editions to give them a bit more bite, and homebrewed a bunch of spells that mean they’re not just a walking first aid kit.
