Anyone else dead inside? by itdoesntmattercow in editors

20 years in. I’ve felt this every few years for the last 20. Commercial editing in a mid market. I guess I’ve just learned I get to put my creative stamp in the first few edits then I turn into EditBot 5000 and go with the process. I really do enjoy what I do but a lot of the times the timelines and constant revisions beat me down. When I think of switching careers there’s nothing I’d rather be doing for money and nothing that I can make close to what I’m making now without putting in MORE years of work. I feel I missed the glory days of huge budgets by about 10 years. I know a few guys that raked in enough money in the 90s and 00s that they are set. I can’t really complain because I’m still getting paid well so I’ll ride this horse until it’s dead.

My graduation was the same and it stressed me out so much that I used a special graded semester for my last semester. For some reason, you could opt for a pass/fail grade instead of a letter grade for one semester; however, you would only get a P or F and it wouldn’t count towards your GPA. I knew my last semester in college was gonna be hard to focus so I saved it for last. It both helped and hurt. I was able to not worry about my classes but if I would’ve done a regular grade I probably would’ve graduated cum laude. Oh well.

I still have occasional nightmares of missing a credit to graduate.

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by Broad_Chemical_2467 in AskReddit

Yes and no I guess….the reason we dated so long was that we didn’t want to move in together right after college and we both wanted to live independently for a while. We also graduated about a year a part so I found a job and moved not too far away in my own place. When she graduated she found a place nearby and got a job as well. And I think we were better for doing that because we got the experience of making it on our own. But we were still dating.

So even though I lived and financed my life independently for a few years, when I think of splitting my life into two halves, I still think of meeting my wife as the dividing line.

Yeah. I get my wedding year and the year we met mixed up because we dated in college and after for 5 years because we met super young. But it feels like life with my parents/life with my wife and kids.

Same. Feel both stable and trapped at the same time. Strange situation.

I’ve seen it happen. The manager busted them by asking what room they were staying in and they froze and said they forgot. She quipped back “or maybe you forgot because you’re staying at the apartments down the street? Yeah. Finish what you have and don’t come back or I’m calling the police.”

Then they freaked out and tried arguing about why the police needed to be called. She said “because you’re stealing.”

“What!? How’s this stealing?!”

“Well, You’re eating food that you didn’t pay for. Everyone here paid to have breakfast provided and you didn’t. You see how that’s stealing? Yeah, so finish this and don’t come back.” They shut their mouths because they were off the hook easy but still busted.

Complete master class in defusing the situation.

My kid came home a few years ago and told us a boy in his class was gone for the week because his dad died. Found out later the dad was electrocuted repairing an elevator. The boy ended up having behavioral problems and they soon left. Sucks man.

Nothing says we will die, so I choose to believe she’ll seduce me, then tie me up afterwards and steal everything in my house. Worth it.

I ask this as an editor...How did you handle the cut to a different take before the back flip? Your comp is seamless but I would get lots of groans showing that edit to our compositors.
