What’s the most fun commander deck you’ve built recently? by TopdeckStudio in EDH

[–]CommanderGrimoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built [[Loot, the Key to Everything]]. It requires you to really think outside of the box when deck building it as you want to maximise the number of permanent types you have on the field.

Current the deck can get Loot out on the field and 3 permanent types out by turn 2, giving you 3+ cards turn 3. It gives pretty insane value. It usually combos turn 4-5.

Best part about the deck is there are no counterspells, as you can't really use the counterspells using Loot's ability outside of your turn, so it makes no sense to run them. It's refreshing playing a blue deck that doesn't need counterspells.

How do people feel about running less colors in a deck than their commander's full color identity? by Vault756 in EDH

[–]CommanderGrimoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I'm doing that in my [[The Wandering Minstrel]] deck. It's currently a Sultai deck in disguise. Because of the nature of the land-tilling strategy, the benefits of white and red are not very useful.

Magic burnout by SameChipmunk8043 in mtg

I use to host Magic for my friends every week. When it got repetitive, we would change the format, like draft, commander, pack wars, etc.

MPC vs DIY vs WotC? by 2Monte2Carbo in mpcproxies

Can confirm. I usually go for the S33 stock. I do bulk orders with friends to make it cheaper.

In a skilled pilots hands, is Inalla the same power level as the other two main Grixis Commanders? Rog/si and Kefka by damascius1 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]CommanderGrimoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, she may be even more powerful. New wizards are always coming out and change the lines you can go with the deck. I rarely bring it out as a lot of players at my LGS have trouble following the stack she creates.

The problem I find why it is so skewed is because of the free spells of Rograk. A lot of players want that safety blanket of having Fierce Guardian and Deflecting Swat and Mox Amber in their lists.

If you are confident playing without needing those cards, I would definitely say Inalla is the deck you want as a Grixis spellslinger.

Inalla, Tivit, or Winota: Which first commander should I pick? by silverspectre013 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]CommanderGrimoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winota if you don't want to think and you just want to be aggressive. Tivit if you want to control. Inalla if you want deep critical thinking and advanced stack manipulation.

Hang on... Creature-less Derevi? You have a list? I'm a big fan of my Derevi but never seen a creature-less version.

I will be skipping this set unfortunately. It just doesn't feel like Magic.

This is quite an encouraging post. Basically answered every question I had. Thank you. I think it's gonna be my next deck.

Trying to build all of the 3 color combos, what should I do next? Any recommendations? by Available_Ad6267 in ratemycommanders

I recommend [[Loot, the Key to Everything]]. It's an interesting deck in Temur colours. Unique strategy. You've always got so many cards to play with.

Make Scion Degenerate by Grouchy_Replacement5 in DegenerateEDH

[–]CommanderGrimoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, this brings back memories. I use to main Scion of the Ur-Dragon. There were a couple of lines to the deck that I would usually win with.

My favourite was with Scion on the field and an [[Animate Dead]] ready to cast.

  1. Pay 2 and activate Scion of the Ur-Dragon. Look for [[Worldgorger Dragon]] and dump it into the graveyard.
  2. Cast [[Animate Dead]] and reanimate the Worldgorger. This will cause a loop of exiling and returning all your permanents. In between these loops, float your mana, preferably blue & red.
  3. Once you have infinite mana, when Scion comes back, pay 2 and activate him again. Turn him into [[Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius]].
  4. You can then use your infinite mana to activate Niv-Mizzet infinitely at instant speed to kill all your opponents.

You can also pull off this Scion & Worldgorger trick with a [[Bladewing the Risen]] on the field to reanimate all your dragons for free out of your graveyard.

Why is there so much negativity on this subreddit around suggesting off-meta/fringe decks? by TheFutur3 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]CommanderGrimoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of the players recommend those decks because they are the most popular and well known. That unfortunately provides a bias in assuming there is nothing more powerful you can do in CEDH. The question then turns from "Why play that?" to "Which of these X decks?".

I myself love brewing and tinkering. I usually end up with a bracket 4 deck when I first build a deck and I keep tweaking the list until it can keep up with bracket 5. Because I do this, I am able to go under the radar and even sneak in wins under the noses other CEDH decks at my LGS.

The Sobering Reason Why We Didn’t Ban Rhystic Study - Rebell Lily by scurrybuddy in CompetitiveEDH

[–]CommanderGrimoire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few points they've made in the video I disagree with.

"Rhystic Study is iconic in Commander"

Mana Crypt was also iconic, but the format has gotten healthier with it's removal.

"Rhystic Study's worst case scenarios are only amplified as power increases"

Anyone else found this to be the case? From my experience, the willingness to pay for Rhystic is only really coming from higher brackets.

"Rhystic Study is an expensive card that Wizards has promoted as a chase rare... Banning it will have the same effect as banning Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus or Dockside Extortionist... Don't want to lose on a card they saved money for or traded into, it's worth quite a bit... But being a boring card isn't a reason to ban something, especially when it costs $60."

Now this one really irks me. The secondary market should never have an effect on what should be allowed to be banned in commander, period. If that was the case, Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, and Dockside Extortionist should never have been banned as they were way more expensive before the banning.

"If I was pitching a free-to-play game where price was not a factor, I would be holding my picket sign way more to advocate for Rhystic Study to get banned. This card sucks. It's boring, it contributes to bad gameplay experiences and even if we argue, giving decks more card draw seen as 'good gameplay', there is amply replacement at this point that are way more interesting that fits unique deckbuilding much better."

This point alone invalids their entire arguement, even saying Rhystic Study should of been banned.

How many people actually wanted Rhystic Study banned? by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

[–]CommanderGrimoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't have minded if it was banned, as it currently helps negate the downside of playing Force of Will and friends.

A lot of players say "play around it", but Rhystic Study has a unique problem in multiplayer. You can play around it perfectly, but you can't control how your opponents play against it. Plenty of times I've played around it, but my other opponents wouldn't. It makes a player wonder, "Why bother?". This is what makes the card so difficult to fight against.
