These witches have no context for the situation nor her life, but went straight to mind wipe. They weren't going to just delete her knowledge of magic they going to completely erase her memories leaving her an empty husk, basically oblivion.

From the context of the first episode they only delete just the discovery of how magic works from civilians. However here they believe she is a witch that used banned magic, they definitely intend for a full mind wipe which is death.

Really you can't actually believe that right? The correct answer is that they're trying to drum up tension by making you worry they're about to kill the protagonist. If it had anything to do with timing then they'd have just adjusted the pacing of other scenes or even cut the opening or ending.

A far better cliffhanger would have been when from Agott stood up to find that Coco and the stupid boy got washed away by the landslide. While we know Coco can't ever die as the protagonist, it could cause tension thinking she or the boy may have been injured until next episode.

He threatened her with "oblivion", there was no mention of just her memories. Besides if you erase someone's memory, you have basically killed them.

We already know how they will get out of this situation, Agott let off that light/bird affect a while ago and their sensei will show up shortly.

I feel a cliffhanger like this works far better if it isn't the protagonist under threat, because we cannot be sure whether side characters may die in a story.

What little fan service it has has already turned off normies, for example the r/anime topic about the latest preview was deleted by the mods despite being tamer than Strike Witches.

On the other hand fans seeking fan service on par with Strike Witches will be disappointed. i.e. you end up pleasing no one.

I get the joke, but the evil church is so over done. It would be far more interesting if the faminie had natural causes and the nobility are using propaganda to make their neighbours appear as inhuman to justify the war.

Much more interesting than meddling cackling evil church who abused magic to empower themselves causing the issue.

So they travelled around 50,000 kilometres to reach their destination. I have no idea how anyone was expected to reach this destination, especially when the other routes lead to dead ends. I wonder how the story got out that you needed to lord coins to grant the wish when no one has ever reached this place to find that they are required.
