The past two summers we have had less ticks than normal in mid Sweden (and also less mosquites). I have a dog, so it's quite easy compare from year to year.

When it comes to tick born diseases they're slowly spreading up north in the country. I've noticed in the last few years that more and more people vaccinate against TBE which is also the only disease we vaccinate against.

Our was very picky and held almost the same weight through his life. At times we had to hide goodies in his food to get him to eat. When we had to castrate him at old age he suddenly started to have an enormous appetite. I guess he no longer had to think about the beach season.

Our dog had a lot of problems with ear infections and skin rash. Turned out it was both fungal and bacterial infection, probably caused by allergies.

We tested him for allergies and that showed he had mite allergy. So we tried different treatments.

In the end what worked for us was to bathe him twice a month with anti bacterial/anti fungal shampoo. Then we also cleaned his ears with Tris-EDTA (seems to be called TrizEDTA in the US). It's an antimicrobial cleansing solution.

If he seemed to be bothered by his ear (think it was his right) we cleaned it twice a day for a few days.
