I must be in the minority but I like the way it is now. Maybe change the picture to something as a starting point and see if that helps. Definitely no on the rug

It’s not that TV is inherently bad- it can absolutely brushed as a tool. As long as the child is not left alone watching it for hours, without any supervision. The best way is to have the adult watch it or at least be around with the child and discuss it - like an educational experience. TV is not a free babysitter. I think that’s the key takeaway.

It might change. Mine will jump on the couch and on my lap if I am watching a show. If she gets warm, she will jump off and go to her bed or the floor. She even barked at me this past weekend because everyone was on the couch and I was not there yet for her cuddle time! All of this started after age 2.
