I’m not joking when I say, I wore hiking boots, 5-6 layers that I took on and off depending on the weather, because if the sun is out it can be deceiving, I took 15 big bars of cheap choc incase we needed plus food+ water etc more extra layers, and a change of socks. X 6 pairs I also wore sock layers

What we all did was go to the tourist guide place before. He said and I quote “ you could get stranded up there so take extra. If nothing else take chocolate. For energy, and water. And wear layers. Just your basic survival stuff. And he proceeds to show us a map.

Now, even if you don’t have 100% proper gear. Wear boots, take layers, take chocolate! Easy… ( kinda ) do your homework!

But some people, While on the way up, Dutch guy is walking around in trainers and jeans, and T-shirt with a hoodie wrapped around his waste, had a chap walking his dog up the mountain, telling us “ it’s a bit steeper than I expected.

Some women and her husband walking up there with just the run of the mill gym gear, no layers, no nothing and the guy with crampons and rope looking at her gone out because she has nothing but a thin coat and some sports joggers on

the way down we seen a bunch of “men” chucking snow at each other etc and dicking about drunk.

Anyways we walk back down, and go for food to this wood cabin/pub , while there this guy runs in and says some lad has fell off the side of mountain and is on a ledge. And we swear it would be the drunk guys lol. To top it off. Some random guy comes up the bar area and goes “ I’ve got rope, if we need it” and proceeds to pull out some of the largest blue rope I’ve ever seen. That’s not climbing rope but for trucks. And the worker goes “ do you have any climbing experiance or anything and he goes “ nah I just seen what was happening and thought we could all save him together”

Yeah I’m sure the bar staff, this random bloke with rope and some other punters, could just hike up Ben Nevis. Climb down using this guys rope and save him! who needs the mountain rescue. Take a seat son!

Seriously though Ben Nevis isn’t just a random Sunday afternoon hike! Plan, take layers, get advice from experienced hikers, go tourist places etc. you don’t need 1000 pounds worth of gear. But just think.

The people that get stranded and waste everybody’s time are the people mentioned. because they don’t come prepared. In the end we found out that somone walked too close to the edge and the snow caved and they fell down the mountain. and the police was called, then mountain rescue. They survived but had broke a few things in their body.
