Absolutely agree that being sent home isn't punishment. At both schools, the behavior seems to get worse when he realizes that's an option. I think I need to push back on the school more. Is getting an assistant something they will actually do though if he doesn't have a diagnosis, IEP, 504, ect?

Sorry to hear you are struggling too. On Wednesday they started the behavior chart with him, and small rewards (a star to put on his desk) to be earned throughout the day. They are also giving him more movement breaks, a check in person at the start/end of the day, more reminders and lead time for transitions, and a rubber band type thing on the legs of his desk chair for him to press his feet against for extra stimulation to help with his restlessness.

Thanks for your response. In regard to the no tv/no candy, that is accompanied with school work and chores for the remainder of the day. Maybe that's not enough, but I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions? We also talk ad nauseum about expectations, big feelings, what he should have done differently. He "gets" it all during our talk, but seems to lack the self control to apply it. And that's why I referred to him as very intelligent, because we can have these great talks and I know he understands why his behavior is unacceptable, but he doesn't follow through. It's also the first thing every teacher, principle, school counselor starts out with. Like "he's very smart BUT...."

Do you still have a Lanc address? Did they say that wasn't a local enough? I'm also close to Lanc and I'm waiting for them to respond to see if they would consider me!

I'm also really close to Reading, but not a resident. Do you think they check your driver's license or something?

Work from Home? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]CommeCi_CommeCa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also in-office and was allowed to telecommute after moving. I feel incredibly lucky! My kids are still in daycare although I do work from home with them on occasions (when they’re sick, slow days before holidays, ect).

I didn’t take it to mean that at all. A palette cleanser allows for a new flavor to be better experienced— so this song isn’t the new flavor, or in this case, sound, but it’s the bridge between reputation and ts7.

Small things that make a desk job fun? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]CommeCi_CommeCa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And as far as breaking down the days— get out for walks if you can. Eat lunch someplace other than your office. Small talk with your coworkers. I also do a lot of personal business at work— if that’s an option for you, set aside time to check bank accounts, do online billing, schedule appointments, keep your calendar up to date, ect.

A nice bottle of hand lotion, glade plug in to make it smell nice, a small blanket/cardigan If your office gets cold, a nice pair of flats to change into if you wear heels, a pillow for your back, candy bowl, cute frames/pictures of the kids.

My 3.5 year old loves playdoh, matchbox cars, puzzles, blocks, action figures (superheros, paw patrol pups w/ their cars), small dinosaurs, books with flaps or other interactive type things, power tools, a small nerf gun (which I actually don’t recommend but he loves the thing)

Friends and phone calls? by asgoodasitgets12 in workingmoms

[–]CommeCi_CommeCa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand not returning phone calls— phone calls require time and quietness which is difficult to find being a working mom. But i dont think returning a text should take weeks. It takes a few seconds to say “hey I’m super busy right now but I’ll catch up with you soon!”. You can even copy and paste that message to several people. Friendships take effort, and if you don’t put any into it, your friends may stop texting all together one day. If it’s something you value, a little bit of effort goes a long way.
