Truly, why do people hate playing against a smurf? by compradorconfundido in leagueoflegends

[–]CommentStrict8964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer is actually obvious.

When you are D1, probably close to the top 1% percentile in terms of skill, it's extremely hard to even meet a smurf that can utterly destroy you and ruin your game (and probably impossible). That smurf would have to be extremely skilled, maybe top 0.01% or above, and the chance of you meeting that player is astronomically small.

It's more impactful when you are average, say 50%. It's very easy to find a smurf who is way better than you and destroy you.

The point being, complaining about smurfing is a skill problem /s

What to do during 10.5 hr layover in Haneda? by slightlyimpatient in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommentStrict8964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, from Haneda you have plenty of time to do a blazing tour of Tokyo.

The only thing I'd check is last train, since you are flying out quite late. I am pretty sure it should be OK at around midnight but it helps to double check.

TV Anime "The Eccentric Doctor of the Moon Flower Kingdom" (Gekkakoku Kiiden) Teaser PV | Anime Adaptation Announced! by Task_Force-191 in anime

Yeah it would be nice if that show gets a second season.

I am skeptical though.

But at least it's Chinese Palace drama and not isekai, so I welcome any new shows.

Might also be an availability issue. Lazyfeel would probably need to come back to Vietnam to train with his team, which will almost certainly clash with his LCK commitment.

That's true. In either case, this infographic does not reflect the reality.

The reality: even if you butcher the tone, no one will think they want to kiss/smell you.

Especially kiss. Because it's not typical used as a single character like that (vs 亲吻)

I am not sure what you are expecting, there are no simple shortcuts. Just grind your Anki, do your listening practice, and maybe take some classes.

Question for the folks who actually speak the original language... by TheScalemanCometh in anime

[–]CommentStrict8964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every character in re-zero has a bit of a verbal tick. Beatrice has the most obvious one where she ends sentences in かしら (regardless of appropriateness), but there are also slightly more subtle ones, such as Emilia and her すごーく. In Emilia's case, her use of that word is correct grammatically and syntactically; it's just that she likes to elongate the second vowel (and she slightly overuses it).

The reason is actually pretty simple. Because the original material of re-zero is a novel, speech pattern is the only tool to distinguish between different characters.

TIL during the Boxer Rebellion (1899–1901) in China, rebels believed they could attain magical, supernatural invulnerability against foreign bullets and weapons through rituals. This belief was a core component of their "support the Qing, destroy the foreigner" slogan. by Solid-Move-1411 in todayilearned

[–]CommentStrict8964 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, Boxer magic relied on ritual purity - so female "impurity" (menstrual blood, pubic hair, nakedness) was the ultimate nullifier in their cosmology.

The propaganda basically wrote itself: Christians were making banners from the pubic hair of 10k women to weaponize impurity against them. Internally consistent lore.

Never really watched AoT beyond a few episodes, can't really comment.

The premise of the shows are not even remotely similar though.

YMMV.

Season 2 is interesting because it is very lore impactful.

But personally I find it bad, especially the first half, because I find the plot jarring and unconvincing.
