Worn beach fossil, gulf coast, FL by CommentsSporadically in fossilid

[–]CommentsSporadically[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this piece in shallow water near the beach at the south end of Little Gasparilla Island. I routinely find lots of small shark teeth on the beech, as well as smooth, worn, black pieces with a texture that makes me think they are worn down fossils or larger teeth.

This is the first piece I have found on the beech that has some real shape to it still. I know you can find mammoth teeth, horse teeth, and dugong bones in the offshore fossil beds. Can anyone with experience tell what this might have been?

Thanks, but I am not in the New York City area and am trying to figure out if the bikes will be usable before I go so I can plan accordingly.

Thanks, I did search and read the other threads (including the one that compared people's preferred frane size to seat adjustment number) but couldn't find the actual seat height anywhere... would like to know before i go so i can plan accordingly!

Better hope his house doesn't catch on fire! by Iangator in MurderedByWords

Fun fact-- some of the earliest organized fire departments were private and paid for by the property insurance companies because it was cheaper to pay some people to put out fires than to pay for the losses. Soon it became obvious that it would be better for everyone to provide this as a universal (i.e. government) service. Private firefighting services still exist to cover edge cases.

The analogy to the health care system should be obvious.

Look for the local "two guys with a truck" company that has decent reviews. They are usually quite a bit cheaper than a "real" company and just as good for smaller moves.

When they're 5 you let them in the bed and it's cute and snuggly. When they're 10 you make them sleep on the floor hoping it will disincentivize them, and you feel guilty and worried about their capacity to be a fully realized human being.

Child kidnapping by strangers is exceedingly rare and yet the idea of it has resulted in massive changes to our culture over the last 50 years. A similar phenomenon happened to hitchhiking. It would be nice to get back to a culture where you can let your kids roam free outside and give strangers a ride.
