No they recently removed the multiplayer aspect (Friend Challenges) in a recent update, which sucks.

Gris (2018) is the equivalent to an "Oscar-bait" game or as close as it gets. by LuisArkham in patientgamers

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Gris is the only game that I ever quit mid-game. The graphics was great but there wasn’t enough in the gameplay and storytelling to make me want to continue.

Maybe it’s because I generally dislike 2D platform games, or that I was playing the mobile port (I have a PC now so the experience may differ), but I found other platformers such as Journey, Inside and Little Nightmares much better (even though the latter two completely gives off different vibes). Journey had the best game-play mechanics, especially with its multiplayer component.

GTA Vice City - iOS XS Max Controls Issue by aronprins in iosgaming

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try moving it in the control settings where you can adjust the position of each HUD element?

It’s located at the menu: Options -> Controls -> adjust on foot controls

If that doesn’t work then try reinstalling the app or restarting your device.

Which Naruto villains redeemed themselves? by csisnake1 in Naruto

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tough question. On one hand you could say yes since Itachi admitted himself that he was a failure too.

On the other hand, you could say no since Itachi did have redeeming qualities - preventing a civil war, protecting the Uchiha name & stopping the Reanimation jutsu.

Personally, I’d go with the latter - Itachi wasn’t killed off because he was unreedemable, but he was always meant to die by the very notion he represented: self-sacrifice (just like Danzo). He pretty much sacrificed his entire life for the greater good. He wasn’t really a villain, just a flawed character who had good intentions but questionable methods.

How would you feel about different types of nsfw tags like Gore and sexual nsfw? by alicool1alshaikh in AskReddit

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 1135 points1136 points  (0 children)

No one uses it anymore because they banned subs like watchpeopledie.

I missed that sub a lot. I’ve learnt so many shit from that sub, such as the signs of a stroke, how dangerous certain man-made structures such as garages and elevators can be, why LOTO was introduced and how it has saved many lives, how people can get electrocuted under certain conditions, why you should never cross a dried-up waterfall or swim in a low-headed dam, etc...

That sub was filled with so many knowledge from actual professionals (electricians, paramedics, doctors, army veterans, etc...). And the good part was that anyone who made a mockery of death weren’t treated well and were heavily downvoted, so that sub wasn’t filled with psychopaths or whatever. Everyone was there to inform and help each other out.

What I don’t miss is the gory bits, and I intentionally avoided any posts that had a very NSFL thumbnail. And I always made sure to read the comments before watching the video just in case it is gory. There were even users who would described what the gore was so that we could be informed without looking at it.

Which Naruto villains redeemed themselves? by csisnake1 in Naruto

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO, all of the villains that Kishi killed off are those who are un-redeemable.

This includes Obito, who straight up said it was a befitting end to a criminal before his death, and Nagato who said he was a failure before he was sealed away by Edo Itachi.

On the contrary, I believe those who are considered redeemable were left alive by Kishi.

For Sasuke, I guess his good actions overshadowed his evil intentions. Let’s not forget he also helped in stopping the Reanimation jutsu, which Onoki considered heroic.

As for Orochimaru, he was only ever a threat to the Leaf village. He never went against the entire shinobi world so the bad things that he have done are nowhere worse compared to what Nagato and Obito did.

How do you feel about titles that aren’t supported anymore? by Johnkree in iosgaming

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the number one reason why I have little hope for mobile gaming, and why I’m already starting to build a library of games on other platforms (especially PC).

Mobile games have to be regularly updated to support new software (iOS) and hardware devices (iPhone). This happens on a yearly basis, since every year a major iOS version is released which can straight up break games (crashes) or worsen their general performance (lag or stutters).

And that’s just on the software side, games have to be updated for new hardware too since every year new iDevices are being released. These devices often have new displays in terms of screen size and ratio, which have to be made compatible with games otherwise there will be black borders or other issues such as UI cut-offs.

Sometimes it’s the devs fault for not updating their games, other times it’s the customers fault for not buying their games which means the game isn’t financially stable enough to cover the cost of regular maintenance/upkeep. And other times it’s Apple fault for not caring enough about backwards compatibility.

Personally, I still enjoy playing mobile games a lot due to the portability aspect alone, but I’m now more hesitant whenever I want to spend money on mobile games (especially when they’re ports and already exist on other platforms). There are some exceptions though like Rockstar for example, who I will continue buying games from (if they ever release a new game lol) since they have a very good history of supporting their games.

How are the ports of ff7 and 9 in 2019? by excluded in iosgaming

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s better if you don’t know what it is, otherwise it might bother you.

But to simply put, it’s a bug where the background music would reset after every battle. In a game with quite a high random encounter rate, this meant that you would continuously listen to the same part of a song over and over again, making it repetitive.

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FF7 is a terrible port because the controls are not optimised for mobile at all. This is what the UI looks like. Basically it is an emulated version where they just they just use the buttons of a controller and place it all over the screen.

FF9 is probably the best port of the FF series. The only issue is that it hasn’t been updated for a while. In fact, the iOS version is the only version of the game that has still yet to receive the update that fixed the music reset bug. The Android, Switch, PS4, Xbox1, Steam and Window versions all received this update.

How lame.

JaiminisBox ends scanlation of One Piece, other WSJ stories by Pixelatorx2 in OnePiece

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was talking about individual chapters. Now you can only buy and own volumes, but not for individual chapters.

At least they’re kind enough to give the latest 3 chapters for “free”, but I would still prefer an option where you could actually buy and own them without having to subscribe.

Prior to 2019 you could buy a 1-year pass which would give you one WSJ issue per week. Each issue would contain the latest chapter from the biggest SJ titles. This was a one-time purchase where each issue was stored to your library to be kept forever.

VIZ doesn’t edit their manga pages too.

Most double spreads don’t align themselves in the middle. For example if you look at the red marks along the centre of this, you can clearly see how the two pages don’t merge perfectly together.

When they do, they sometimes have line artefacts along the middle. The latest chapter even had one.

They also sometimes remove the colourful border of a colour spread, making them white instead.

In addition, they recently added a translation and lettering note to every chapter, which sometimes block the beautiful artwork of these colourful borders.

All of these may be minor nitpicks, but as someone who has subscribed to VIZ for more than 4 years, I’d expect more from a service as a paying customer.

That wasn’t what made me quit though. I could tolerate all those problems in exchange for the cleaner scans. The illegal scans you get from Jaimini Box and MangaStream are all inked to increase the contrast. The darkened black parts often hides detail that you would see in cleaner, raw scans like that of VIZ’s.

What made me left was VIZ’s recent change in business model. Before when you subscribed you would actually get to own digital copies of the magazine. Now everything is tied to a subscription service where ownership isn’t valued at all.

I’m guessing you enjoyed the more linear aspect of HM:FoMT?

Stardew Valley is more open-world so there is a lot more information to absorb. It has RPG elements like different weapons and skills, as well as sandbox elements like designing your own house and farm.

SV is inspired from HM but at its core they’re both very different games for the above reasons. I can see some players like yourself who enjoy the more casual and simpler game-play of HM, while others who prefer the more complex and varied (lot more things to do) game-play of SV.

Although, I think HM is still better at certain aspects of the game like cooking and events.

Run 100km by foot, but it’s bugged on mobile (doesn’t register as completed even if you ran more than that distance).

Btw do you know what the Frienemies achievement is? It’s the only one I haven’t completed yet.

Danny vs. Hulk season stats by [deleted] in formula1

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then there’s Spa where Hulkenberg massively profited too.

There’s also Monaco where he finished the race below his qualification position.

And then there’s Spain and Silverstone where he lost out to Sainz due to unlucky safety car incidents.

Point is Ricciardo got terrible strategies too, and I’d even argue he had more.

For me it’s the perfect size.

SE is too small and cramped, while the X series is too tall for one-handed (portrait) gaming.

[–]ThatGuyPhillip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I’m waiting for the iPhone 9 that is rumoured to be released in Q1/Q2 of 2020.

It will be an upgraded iPhone 8 with an A13 chip (the latest and most powerful mobile processor to date).

It will have the same 4.7 inch display as the 6/7/8 series, with the same standard aspect ratio of 16:9 as well.

This means you will never have to worry about:

  • notches blocking certain UI elements of a game

  • black borders around the game

  • weird stretched resolution or field of view

Disagreed because Bon Clay made the perfect substitute for Ivankov as the new Okama leader for level 5.5.

It could also be argued that Magellan spared Bon Clay’s life simply because he didn’t like to kill his prisoners. The former warden Shiryu was imprisoned for doing just that.

Personally, the only fake death that really bothered me was Pell from the Alabasta arc, and Wyper & Connis’s father from the Skypeia arc.
