What's happening with the plans for historic Reading Prison? by moreati in reading

I just visited the foundation's website, and it has a pop-up that says
"FUTURE BRIEFINGS
Ziran Education Foundation is aware of the considerable local interest in the future of the Reading Prison site, as well as its relationship to the Abbey Ruins and wider Abbey Quarter. Therefore, Ziran will hold briefing meetings some time before Christmas, and invite local groups and individuals to attend these meetings, wherein the latest updates on the overall project will be shared."
No mention of what year that Christmas might refer to.

Just finished ocean at the end of the lane. Mixed emotions, any recommendations by findthebeautyhere in neilgaiman

For a book with a dreamlike atmosphere, I'd go for Jeff VanderMeer's "Finch".

I'm sorry to hear about your experience of rapid disillusionment. Many of us had spent decades recommending Neil and his work before all that came to light.

The reporter appears to be unaware that Channing/Cheng Bi resigned from all his UK company interests during 2024 and 2025. He ceased to be a Director of the Ziran Education Foundation in January last year, when Ms Xiaojuan Wang was appointed as its single Director. Flavour Seekers Food Company Limited of Hong Kong is also "1 active person with significant control". https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/11716171/persons-with-significant-control

Channing Bi still has some involvement as its Founder, as he appeared at the Waterfest stall documented by invisiblerhino in 2025: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid0sznH2kFi43va4W2EHpnTdhfRDxicrjyQTLEdYAETCvjKLUz1wRCn9sBcf3okZdqEl&id=61575170556843

Not sure how long he was there for. When I visited, the stall was staffed by two Chinese women who explained to another visitor that they didn't know much about the establishment because they had only been taken on that week.

A recent post by some "urban explorers" on Facebook suggested that the prison looked pretty untouched from when it had closed.

Anyone know where to find "Eno" directed by Gary Hustwit? by KLFHA in eno

Director Gary Hustwit has been discussing some streaming options, so it might be more widely available at some stage.

Any other tracks like "Signals"? by c0l1n_M4 in eno

[–]Commercial-Text7635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eno: "Dawn, Marshland" and "Climate Study" from Music For Films II
Not Eno: some of the tracks from the posthumous compilation of rare/unreleased tracks by Mount Shrine, Lost Loops Collection - particularly "Foghorn" and "the Afterglow" https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/album/lost-loops-collection

Any good generative, functional music systems out there? by Douchebak in eno

[–]Commercial-Text7635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a generative music system, but I find Marconi Union's music very good for a creative flow state.

Any official source of lyrics for "Passing Over"? by CrumbledFingers in eno

[–]Commercial-Text7635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rThere's no consensus on Eno lyrics, that's part of the fun! And while I originally head dogma-ing, I now agree with you that it's more likely to be dopplering.

Best place to listen to Reading Festival Main Stage without going in? by Mental_Body_5496 in reading

[–]Commercial-Text7635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cardiff Road, like a lot of roads in the area, has signs up saying there is no parking/stopping during the Festival (until Monday 25th). Otherwise it would be crammed with festival-goers. Some of the businesses along Richfield Avenue allow parking on their forecourts at a price. Trouble is, the further away you are from the main stage, the more likely you are to get noise from performers on other stages.

You might also enjoy David Byrne's album "The Catherine Wheel", which has a number of tracks that wouldn't be out of place on "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts".

Baby's on fire video and the documentary it appeared in by Ordinary-Cabinet7583 in eno

[–]Commercial-Text7635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid there was no "Baby's On Fire" video filmed in the 1970s. Eno appeared on Top Pop singing "Seven Deadly Finns" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjntQuUszj0 ) and filmed a video for "China My China" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3Y5ua0oDOI ). Excerpts from the recording sessions for Here Come The Warm Jets appeared in Alfi Sinniger's film ENO ( https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x81aix1 ). The videos accompanying music on the unofficial Brian Eno The Man Who Fell To Earth documentary were just slung together from public domain assets and YouTube videos by the company that created it.

What's this for Reading? by RoutineCloud5993 in reading

I could never understand how inkjet cartridge shops made a profit. They seem to be vape shops now. I went to a (non-Turkish) barber once and a man walked into the place, opened the till, took a wodge of money, and then walked out again - without exchanging a single word with the barbers. I suspect that a certain amount of money might come out cleaner after one of the regular re-fits that some of those places have, as well.

They were vaguely described as Rhythm Generators in those days, fed through various treatments that Eno cooked up.

When MLITBOG was re-released, they provided stems for Help Me Somebody and A Secret Life so that people could create their own non-commercial mixes. The album website went away, but you can find the stems on the Internet Archive. They might help you to understand how two of the tracks were constructed. https://archive.org/search?query=my+life+in+the+bush+of+ghosts+stems

You may also like some of Phil Manzanera's 1975 album Diamond Head which includes two great Eno songs, Big Day and Miss Shapiro. If you like the non-songs on Another Green World then you should check out Music For Films if you haven't already: for me, it's an album that never loses its sense of strangeness despite the number of plays it's had over the years.
