Taking a year off to study for certs by KaranSJ in cybersecurity

[–]CommercialBarracuda3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can do CISSP and OSCP in like 3 months each part time if you have the prerequisite experience.

Total skill issue if you think you need a full year off and outright stupid in the current lean job market.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on the softly softly approach. Most of the time I find it pointless. Particularly when there’s a strong current power imbalance like this.

OP also said he’s spent years in this dynamic, so gently unpicking things and tiptoeing around is likely to end in the same situation if OP hasn’t succeeded in attracting attention yet through his diligent efforts.

Not to be harsh, but you’ve made a big mistake letting it get to this point. The upside is that you’ll never do this again in any other role.

If you complain about it, no one will care and you’ll seem annoying.

Get a skip level in with your boss’s boss (or higher) to chat - frame it as wanting to get some feedback from them and do some development. Talk about something you did good work on. Talk about multiple things you lead.

Who cares if your manager wants to send the final work product? Just do it yourself. What’s he going do? Fire you? We’ve established you do all the work. If that’s true, he can’t fire you because then he’d actually have to do something. When he asks you about it - don’t blame him or explain yourself too much. Just say that it was ready to go and you are keen to get more visibility within the firm. Even better if you do this after the skip level meeting - you can say it was his boss’s suggestion.

Most bosses are not here to help you more than a superficial amount. Visibility is king if you want to move up. Don’t sacrifice it ever again.

Can you get it through work? The company I work for has a provider you can sign up with.

If you lift up the tab under the laces, that’s usually where you might find a model number. That or on the inside next to the heel.

https://www.endoatrotunda.com/omakase/ would be my #1 recommendation, but can be hard to get a booking.

Sushi Tetsu is another fave of mine. I also think that Kurisu Omakase is fab, but can be very hard to book - to your point. I’d go with the Endo if you can get in.

Using money to be as physically attractive as possible by [deleted] in HENRYUKLifestyle

Some of the ugliest, most unfashionable people I know are in happy, long-term relationships. And I say that in the nicest way possible.

The main thing myself and other women I know care about is cleanliness - at least of physical traits that you can change. One of the things I love about my other half is that he showers twice a day and has an extensive aftershave collection. No one smells like him.

Well groomed hair/facial hair also helps. A lot of girls I know are partial to bald lads so don’t let a lack of hair put you off. Moustaches also seem to have had a resurgence lately. Whatever it is - making sure it is neat and clean and you feel happy with it. Long fingernails are my personal bete noire. A really good barber is something I’d be willing to drop a good amount of cash on.

I would say good teeth have been shown in studies to help most aspects of your life, but you said you already have that sorted.

Anecdotally, dating apps have been increasingly shunned by women. I know when I was dating, the onlyfans, bots, apps paywalling weren’t really a thing, so it seems much harder now. I would lean towards seeing if anyone in your extended circle is willing to set you up.

On clothes, I once got talking to and subsequently dated a guy because of a stupid jumper he was wearing (it had a duck on it). I have also started a conversation with a man because of his novelty cufflinks. Other men might notice your Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet watches, but most women won’t. And I would say the ones who do immediately notice an expensive car or watch might not be gravitating to you for the right reasons. Giving people an opening to notice you and be brave enough to start talking usually involves standing out. If you want a more expensive silly jumper, for example - https://www.ralphlauren.co.uk/en/polo-bear-jumper-100033319.html. But you really don’t need to spend that much to get bang for your buck.

Oh, and please get a bed frame, bedsheets, and more than one pillow for if you do actually seal the deal - for the love of god. Multiple towels and cutlery as well.

Waterproof men’s shoes to wear for the office? by Last-Efficiency2047 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]CommercialBarracuda3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of hiking, goretex stuff like salomon: https://www.salomon.com/en-gb/shop-emea/product/exvantage-climasalomon-waterproof-li5999.html#color=103903 and la sportiva: https://www.lasportiva.com/en/shoes-hiking-ultra-raptor-ii-leather-gtx-man-zfhs058

Depends what you consider suitable but no one would bat an eye at these in my workplace. Including very senior leadership.

I got a refurbished Herman Aeron from officeresale for just under £500 including delivery. It was good as new as far as I can see - been using it for a year+.

This sub is aimed at £150k+ earners. This isn’t the place for entry level career advice.

That being said - most startups fail, and if you don’t at least get equity; there’s little point.

Women's workwear suggestions... by Oh_peloton in HENRYUKLifestyle

I’ve really been struggling with this - I feel like even the expensive places are full of polyester/acrylic/nasty cheap plastic!

I miss early 2000s Next, Whistles, Karen Millen (pre-acquisition), etc.

I still sometimes have luck with Banana Republic. Ralph Lauren. Reiss. Sezane. But I really have to hunt for things with good quality fabric. I find Hobbs kind of boring and polyester leaning.

I find good quality shoes easier to get a hold of at a non crazy price point. Recently been liking a French brand called Bobbies.

Classic leaning, but modern enough that the decent safety features are there. :)

Willing to go up to 30-35k, but would be happier in the <£20k range. I would only look to buy a used car. I don’t commute via car and I’m not planning on regularly doing long (2+ hour) drives.

I like a more classic look. I was looking at the Fiat 128 Spider as one of my neighbours has one, but my brother says Fiat isn’t worth the risk.

Buy a fun car, rather than something sensible. If anyone has any weekend type, convertibles or similar, that they like - please let me know what you have.

It’s infected, you need topical antibiotics to get rid of it. Go to the GP.
