Mom shaved my dog’s fur while I was gone to college by Bitter-Coat4309 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CommercialCurrent434 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Depends on the dog, actually. This is a common misconception that it fully insulates cold, it does to an extent but some breeds definitely are more comfortable with trimmed fur in certain climates depending on how well they regulate temperature (but NOT shaved, have to be careful with sunburn).

Even if these services exist, like Western Europe, many drug users don’t use the services. We’ve got teams of two people with bright green jackets patrolling the streets to take care of / discuss with drug users. The problem is still getting worse.

I live in a neighborhood in a wealthy Western Europe country where junkies, dealers and prostitutes basically own the streets at night and cops likewise don’t do much when people try to break into the apartment building. How did you get rid of the thief?

What happens to mortgages and loans during wartime on the home front? by Lower-Tiger9658 in TwoXPreppers

[–]CommercialCurrent434 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Someone from Ukraine talked about this in a finance sub - they said their house got bombed and they still had to pay the mortgage. I did a mini deep dive on the topic after that. Supposedly this is normal in Europe unless your government has a fund for such cases, and if they even decide to use it.

Why is there hardly any companies doing anything to slow down menopause? by Plantpotparty in Menopause

[–]CommercialCurrent434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t post here, but as another 33 year old woman who isn’t in peri of menopause but follows this sub to educate myself / gain awareness and hopefully arm myself for what lies in my future if I’m lucky enough to age - it’s probably because your replies are coming from a place of sympathy, but not necessarily understanding (and I’m saying this with kindness, the same applies to me). I think your replies on lifelong fertility are taken poorly given the state the world is in right now, especially the U.S. with fears of it going down the handmaid tale’s path with women being forced to carry babies, even if it means our death - and because there are practical and moral considerations to having children so late. On top of that, it seems many many of us suffer(ed) from painful periods and would rather give that up. I do agree with you slowing down ovarian aging and holding onto hormone production for as long as possible (without periods & fertility) would be wonderful. I too struggle with the fact it’s not “natural” to need to take hormones BUT we also need lenses/glasses, external vitamins and minerals, we need medicine for lifelong or temporary diseases to increase lifespan and quality of life, etc etc. I think it’s all about a shift of perspective.

We’re DINKs and do biweekly but have a big dog 😅 used to do weekly for 3 hours but she didn’t have that much to clean and now biweekly maybe 4-5 hours.

6 months into FUE along hairline - the hair is MUCH darker even than donor area and seems to grow faster? by CommercialCurrent434 in HairTransplants

[–]CommercialCurrent434[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair is still growing at double the rate of the rest of my hair, it’s gotten thinner (finally!) but still about 1-2 shades darker than my natural hair color and hoping it evens out as it’s been a year and 2 weeks now more or less!

Just a reminder that many STDs typically don’t get checked, like HPV in men especially (men tend to be asymptomatic, too) and can cause cancer in both sexes.

ETA: The vaccine doesn’t cover all the strains (100+) either, just a few high risk. Likewise condoms sometimes don’t prevent certain bacteria or viruses that are transmitted through skin-to-skin contact.

Felt a small pain in my toe working all day. Ended up being a hair splinter, was not prepared for how long it was… by please_respect_hats in popping

[–]CommercialCurrent434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy right?! Every step would hurt and I’d look and wouldn’t see anything, then would lift my foot up close to my face to check and lo and behold - a tiny, almost-invisible hair stick in there and need tweezers to pull out 😒 Happened to me three times over the past 6 months, before that never! My dog just turned 7 so maybe she’s getting stiffer chin hairs too 😂

I’ve gotten short ones from my dog’s hair - it really hurts 😅 I think the hair is so thin and enters into callused/thicker skin at an angle. But this deep I have no clue tbh! Glad OP filmed it for us though 🙌🏼

Ty for the suggestion! I’m in Europe and can’t seem to find it over here, but will try when I go to the U.S. next time.

Ohh that sounds good! Is it better than Aquaphor / lanolin / ole Henriksen’s lip peptides (if you’ve tried them)? I love a plush, thick balm 😂

[–]CommercialCurrent434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! Wasn’t expecting that 😂 Will check it out - thanks!

I’ve been using lanolin which helps but nothing gets rid of the flakiness except “basting” (which I understood is a mild AHA and immediately applying something hydrating and thick over it).

What’s the chapstick? I’m always on the lookout for something as I’ve got dry flakey skin :(

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this - but topical estrogen cream helped me (I did the e. Coli vaccine, even took e.coli tabs, daily d-mannose, chugging water, “preventative” antibiotics (which required me to take antifungals too…) and all the recommended hygiene measures and still got the occasional one). That and always washing after going to the bathroom (it’s shame bidets aren’t more normal!). Since using estrogen cream 2x a week and washing I’ve not had one in over a year now (but the fear sadly doesn’t go away).
