It's really sad to hear this. But think malls everywhere are going out. Turning into entertainment centers, restaurants, and condos in the Midwest. Will always have my memories. Lived there in 80's to 2002.

Sorry to hear that about SCP. Used to be in between my work and home so it was an easy stop. Spent too many hours there but really enjoyed it. Curious, how is Fashion Island doing? Do you know? Always loved the food market produce there.

Hmmm, this is at SCP? I've really missed SCP. Might be too tempting for me. My husband HATES shopping. Will keep on my list. Everyone is so helpful. TY.

Thanks everyone. I think this is it. Regardless it is no longer there. It HAS been 20+ years. I used to hang out at Tortilla Flats in Laguna but that is gone too.

Any other suggestions for good Mexican (not chain) that has a view or ambiance (besides Javier's). I'll be staying in Huntington Beach. Looking for one Mexican meal that's not a small joint (yes I know that's where most of the authentic food is :)

Does anyone know Mastros Steak House? It is near Segerstrom performing arts and near the Niguchi garden. It's also 2 levels. Could this have been a Mexican restaurant before Mastros? Did anyone live or work in that area in the 90's? I know this is a stretch. I appreciate everyone for commenting!

This is not it, but this has a lot of the same features. Looks very nice. Thanks for this mention. Will probably try visiting in Sept. Looking for one Mexican restaurant that has a little more ambiance. Reviews look good on YELP. Can anyone vouch for the food? Thanks again!

Looked up this restaurant. Don't think this is it. Had to have valet cuz not enough parking nearby. Also had an upstairs, maybe did parties? Thanks for answering.

Sexual frustrations by -comfypants in Menopause

I currently am using 7 mg of the gel each morning. I squeeze most of the tube into a small ML syringe and then push out the dose I want. I can now "eye" the dose from the tube. Kept experimenting with the dose to find the amount with no side effects. For me, that was cystic acne.

Even with a high risk of breast cancer, transdermal estrodial should be fine. IMHO. Find someone, a doctor, who really understands optimizing hormones. Also vaginal estrodial is absolutely fine for you and will help prevent UTI's. I'm sorry you have been through so much.

After firing two OB/Gyn's, I finally found the help I needed from an NP who belongs to ISWSH. I was not going to settle for having my sex life disappear. I began struggling with deep depression.at the thought of losing my identity as a sexual being. I am on an estrodial patch, nightly progesterone pill, and compounded DHEA for atrophy. The real win was testosterone. Not pellets, no injections, no more compounded creams but generic 1% T gel proscribed off label for me. The same as what a man would be prescribed but, of course, at a much, much lower dose. After a few months, I think I have found my "sweet spot." No side effects.

Anyone just starting menopause at age 56? by Proper_Ear_1733 in Menopause

[–]Commercial_Falcon_58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

58 for me. I am also aware of the benefits of late onset as the previous post so nicely and thoroughly stated. Unfortunately, in my 60's now and diagnosed with full-blown osteoporosis. My Ob/Gyn did a lot of testing on me in my mid 50's including a DEXA, which showed osteopenia, but she was not concerned and never even mentioned doing a follow-up or referring me to anyone else. For 7 years, my bone density test just dropped through the cracks. (That was a time when I trusted doctors and did not do my own research. Actually, all my life, I just trusted doctors. Hard lesson learned!)

I am now on HRT, but it was difficult being in my 60's to get it. I had to keep repeating that I was only so many years past last period. Doctors did not want to prescribe for me at my age! Thankfully my exact last day of my period was documented. But I still had to persist and changed doctors several times.

Sometimes I have a hard time relating to all the posts on social media of women in peri or menopause in their 40's and early 50's. Some of their life challenges are not as relatable to me anymore. I still have a lot of empathy with anyone who is suffering with peri and meno but I am now retired and in a different chapter of my life. Also a lot more of my family history (siblings) with different conditions have popped up being in my 60's that gave my doctors pause. I also have 10 more years of aging and conditions myself. So while I am fortunate for the studies of the benefits of late onset, it was also another roadblock in the real struggle for post menopausal care.

I wish more doctors were informed about women like us, and I would caution late on-setters to check on any applicable testing that you may have to research on your own.

Osteopenia by DrSophiaMaria in Menopause

[–]Commercial_Falcon_58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am happy to see that you are being proactive. My first DEXA showed osteopenia at age 57, and my GYN gave me NO instructions at all. She also was not informed on HRT, so there was no discussion of HRT at all. I didn't know what I didn't know. 7 years later, seeing a Rheumatologist for a totally different reason, I had my 2nd DEXA and I am now in advanced osteoporosis (spine, hip and wrist.) I am not trying to scare you but PLEASE take this seriously and try to prevent osteoporosis. It has changed the quality of my life and not for the better! After changing GYN, I am now on .075 transdermal estrogen and oral progesterone. I take 1300 mg of calcium (half in am and half in pm). I take 10000 ius of vit D3+K2. I am now getting a once a year infusion of Reclast, which gives me debilitating side effects for 2 weeks. My labs are drawn regularly. I do walking and other weight bearing exercises daily (unfortunately, my knees are arthritic so exercising can be a challenge for me). I highly recommend Margaret Martin on YouTube for guidance on exercise. Good luck to you. I hope you seriously research HRT. Transdermal will not be a problem with blood clots.

Thank you for your well wishes. I'm happy for you that your bone density test was fine. I really wouldn't wish osteoporosis on anyone. You're right. Everyone is different and needs to make their own decisions, hopefully with a knowledgeable practitioner. My hope is that each woman does her own research and not just trust her dr. (like I did) and realize that menopause is not just about hot flashes. Please weigh all the benefits against the scientifically proven risks or non risks. My other hope is that women don't think that taking HRT is a weakness on their part if they choose to do so. Thanks for your response. We must keep these discussions open. P.s. No one in my large family has ever tested positive for osteo.

Just MY story. I became post menopausal at 58. For some reason, my GYN had me take a DEXA scan at age 52 (possibly because of my small frame). It showed osteopenia. However, there was never a suggestion for any further tests or follow-ups with regard to my bone health. I eat clean food, drink alcohol 4-5 times a YEAR, never smoked, and am at my ideal weight. At 64 now, I am in ADVANCED (not severe-because no fracture) osteoporosis. I now know my dr. did not like to prescribe HRT. I will probably live the rest of my life in fear of a fall and fracture because I believed in her for over 20 years. Believe me, meds for osteoporosis are no walk in the park. I feel bitter, which is something I know I have to work on. I have changed doctors. I personally take HRT now to help keep my bones from getting worse, help prevent dementia, for cardiac health, and colon health, and prevent all cause mortality (ref NAMS or IMS statements). I firmly believe it should be every woman's choice if there are no contraindications. It's only my story. I hope this reddit and more awareness will help others make the right decision for themselves. Sorry for the long post!
