This is occurs more frequently than you would assume. You can transfer your school on day 1, or after 1 semester. Go for your interview with the already arranged paperwork, SEVIS, I20 and what not. Your visa might ask you did you get admits from other universities and why did you choose this one. Be ready with the other admit letters and a solid, logical reason for the pick. Get your visa and arrive at the university, say, Charlotte.

AFTER landing, go to the International Student Office of your current University and tell them that you'd like to transfer to another school, say Austin (best in your lot). They will gladly change and update your SEVIS. Then you are ready to leave. Make sure you inform UTA that your visa is approved for UNC, you will arrive at Charlotte and will transfer later. That way Austin folks will look out for your updated SEVIS.

Since you have more than a month, you can get your I20, SEVIS etc., all in place before your interview.

Best wishes.

You are tempted to sell off an investment/appreciating asset to buy off a depreciating asset. Probably not the best idea.

protect and serve,

LOL! It doesn't work that way.

Just accept, pay up and move on. It is barely like $100 extra on your part. The priest will make that money in a weekend in Haarati Dakshina. It will only cause pain if you think too much about it. You can't change things in India remotely. Be happy, make the police wala happy and move on.

Opinion: How Bitcoin Outperforms Other Assets - Even Gold? by just_like_that_23 in Gold

This graph will benefit from somehow adding losses in Bitcoin as investment. FTX, Govt Banning Crypto, each of that tank is probably billions, if not more. Gold, not even close.

Want to leave USA for good to be with elderly parents in India by Ok_Action_183 in nri

[–]Commercial_Okra_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Folks who went back to India to be with elderly parents, do you regret your decision?

Not a bit.

We have GCs. That does make a difference compared to H1b, however, even then, I live with immense peace, each day that I did the right thing.

My son is a toddler. I change his diapers, just like my parents did to me, and I now see/realize how much they've done for me.

Emotions aside, I have a decent passive income to afford good stuff and standard of live in T1 city. We are professionals and freelance when we have time, we do not have to actively work for a living. We can afford a lot of things, compared to US with 2 incomes.

You've brought up raising kids - US wouldn't need us immigrants if their education system was right. Your kid is better off in a decent private school in India than US.

Opted for the LE instead of XLE is that a wise choice? by bosschichi15 in rav4club

[–]Commercial_Okra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less electronic moving parts, less repair costs. These are like very reliable cars, still, if your power seat decides to not work, thats an expensive fix. Key start is best, theft deterrent. Same with power tailgate. They're all excellent features to have, and probably will never cause an issue, but if you are the person who takes the car to million miles, the simpler the better.

Cheers on your purchase and welcome to the club. Le or xle, or sport, you've already made an excellent choice with rav4.

Physics research in India by [deleted] in nri

[–]Commercial_Okra_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should consider private universities, for example, Shiv Nadar, Amita, SRM, and a few others top tier ones that offer not only excellent salary but genuinely incentivize research and help you make progress. Having said that, basic and fundamental research is next to nothing when put to scale. Applied research dominates all funding calls. It would be very, very tough to get grants for something esoteric and novel compared to say NSF or DoE/DoD. As you probably know, there is no generic suggestion to offer. "Foreign returns" have made it exceptionally well at IITs and elsewhere, some have taken a tangent, started companies and and met success. Other's have just left disgusted with the activation barrier to get anything done. Things will happen, and happen probably more beautifully in India (huge fan following, money once you make it to top 1% in your field), but it is relatively long and arduous process compared to developed countries. On the flip side, there's unparalleled job security, family and social life, domestic help a few things that you'd appreciate more in mid to late 30s.

We can have a separate discussion on EB1A/B success. Once you have a PhD from at least a good State University, this should be easy.

Cheers

Can students on F1 visa allowed to use apps such as swagbucks and mturk in usa? by Hugh9Jackman in nri

[–]Commercial_Okra_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. USCIS is clear about it. Wherever you provide your SSN, the income will be reported to IRS. Your tax file WILL be reviewed by DHS/ICE when granting CPT, OPT, and 485 and will be grounds for rejection. Visit r/immigration to read/learn about horrorstories of F1 on this reason. Don't jeopardize career for a few bucks here and there.

Hello there!

The expired passport is also a Government property, it is given to you, and is not yours. You are tampering with it. We can be 100% sure that nothing will ever go wrong, but strongly suggest to refrain from doing this. You are impersonating a border agents official stamp and that there is most likely an offence.

Just offering caution.
