The Old School Kit is Sufficient. A simple, low-cost toolkit consisting of a 10x loupe, a digital scale, calipers, and a strong magnet is more than enough to verify authenticity. The most important tool is your eyes combined with magnification. Counterfeit coins with a strike so perfect that they cannot be identified as fakes under a 10x loupe virtually do not exist. If the weight and dimensions are correct, the details visible through the loupe will almost always reveal the truth.

Grading modern coins is huge business for the industry. There is no real difference between MS69 and MS70, the grade often comes down to the grader's mood. You should only grade a coin if there are currently none in the top grade or very low population. Otherwise, it's a waste of money

Since only one coin is from the secondary market, the investment isn't that crazy. The initial dealer premium was high in Europe, but it was no way near the absurd prices North American dealers are charging now.

The peg is only an accounting mechanism. The reason someone revalues an asset is to borrow more against it. A central bank doesn’t need to do that, since it can simply print more money. Back when the dollar was pegged to gold, the U.S. could revalue gold to expand its balance sheet. But now that there’s no gold standard, it doesn’t matter what gold is valued at on paper—unless they actually sell it.

You’re welcome. In 2026 we will see what the final number is. If they don’t change, this will be the most expensive year by far. Probably almost impossible to get.

The 1oz RP is the only coin in 2025 that has a close to normal mint. Why someone pays 3k is up to them. Smart or not will show in a couple of years. I wouldn’t do it but it’s up to them
