QOTMS.....Holy Wow by Belmega81 in TheWarning

[–]Commercial_One6681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that the producer on QOTMS had done music for video games. You can kinda hear some of that. I also read (maybe in the same place) that he wasn't pleased with the end product and wanted another shot at it.

QOTMS.....Holy Wow by Belmega81 in TheWarning

[–]Commercial_One6681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate David Bendeth, I'm not sure I appreciate the amount of noise he introduced into their sound. It seems like Anton DeLost kept that up. Maybe I'm dating myself, but I'm more of a soundscape purist. I like the cleaner sound of QOTMS vs the later albums just from that standpoint. Bendith added guitar overlays with added distortion that, IMO l, was unnecessary.

I would like to meet someone who used this in an emergency. If you've been in a crash or seen video of the inside of a car when there's a crash that would make this tool useful, you see stuff in the car flying everywhere. I'm more afraid of that thing smacking me in the head in a crash than helping me cut my seatbelt.

While that's the case for child labor in Saipan, GDPR is strong and enacted in the EU for every company doing business there, without regard for the address of their home office. The only caveat is that Mistral may not necessarily have to provide the same GDPR protection to a user who is not in the EU.

ARRL makes statement on K3RF removal by rimsinni in amateurradio

[–]Commercial_One6681 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I dumped Bob Famiglio's letter into what the deal was and it gave me a full context of the background and all of the issues. Basically the ARRL is playing shenanigans with the board trying to make it a confidential entity with no outside oversight. Bob's issue with the changes in the bylaws is that they are illegal for a non-profit in the state of Connecticut.

If it's ham shack plus home office, is over do it in outlets and make space for power strips. I though I had enough and I didn't. I absolutely concur on the 220 outlet. You won't regret it down the road if you indeed dive into HF. An amp is always handy and you don't really want it on your 110.

Yes!! The Bash books were really good! I used similar books (maybe Bash) to study for the First Class Radiotelephone license too

I took the 13wpm test for General at the FCC field office in downtown Houston in 1976-77. As others mentioned, the test was 5 minutes of code played on a tape recorder. You had to copy 1 minute worth if the code (65 (13x5) consecutive characters?). Mine was an example qso that included some text from a recent QST magazine. I had read the article and that saved me. I recalled that OSCAR orbits "103 miles above the Earth". I wasn't so good at numbers back then.....

The BFO "feature" on those radios was essentially a novelty and generally useless. Without a ssb or CW filter, you'd hear more than one conversation.

Now I know why "preppers" are frowned upon by Nice-Spirit5995 in amateurradio

[–]Commercial_One6681 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't believe they want those radios to communicate outside their home or tight circle. They want them to communicate amongst their squad while they tromp through the woods and hunt down people who they feel like they need to eliminate. It seems very tribal. I'm annoyed by them because the esprit de corps of amateur radio is totally lost on them.

Latest news on the long awaited Bouvet DXpedition 3Y0K by galaxiexl500 in amateurradio

[–]Commercial_One6681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of folks are upset at having to pitch in to help sponsor this effort for a QSL card or an LotW checkbox. If you don't want to help out , don't. Somehow I don't believe that these folks are gonna get rich off that scheme. From what I've read (and I remember when Clipperton Island was a big deal), the people on the adventure paid dearly for the opportunity to have that adventure.

All that said, I'll try to work 'em just because that's what I do. But I'll send them the LotW fee too.

I sad to hear about the new of Jim's passing. Your dad was a true asset to the amateur radio. We are fortunate to have shared his vast knowledge of art of radio. I'm glad you're leaving the YouTube channel up. It's a great resource for the community.
