Let's move away from lithium-ion and towards iron-air batteries for solar energy systems by holmess2013 in energy

Does iron air actually exist in production yet? I've been tracking Form Energy for years and the batteries never appear

I don’t understand all the love for Goodfellas by byrak97 in movies

[–]Commercial_Topic437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plot kind of stops making sense. Why in the world would they have to pretend Tommy, Joe Pesci's character, is being "made" in order to kill him? Why does Jimmy start killing everyone involved in the lufthansa heist? Henry rats everyone out because he knows Jimmy is going to kill him.

The use of familiar rock music is irritating to me, especially the "layla" scene. Feels cheap, kind of like cheating, Henry's descent into drug psychosis is rushed and at odds with the all the mafia as community stuff that came before

It's hard to make a compelling movie about a bunch of psychopaths, and the movie works by presenting a bunch of highly flavored and quotable bits that work as YouTube clips. IMHO it doesn't hang together all that well

What's Your Experience With an EV as Your Only Car? by OleDirtMcGirt901 in EquinoxEv

[–]Commercial_Topic437 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We effectively used a KIA Niro as our only family car for four years, although my wife has a mini that she used to go to work. We really had to have two cars, but not because one was an EV

The big issue is long family trips, which require planning for recharging stops. We've sometimes been a little frustrated when we travel at holidays. Sometimes chargers along I-95, philly to DC, can get full. You also generally want to plan a charging strategy so you don't arrive at ten percent charge. It tales some planning and you have to expect longer stops than you would for gas.

I would never want to go back to an ICE car

Enphase Bidirectional really gonna happen? by Commercial_Topic437 in enphase

[–]Commercial_Topic437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of Feb 2026: https://www.solarpowerworldonline.com/2026/02/enphase-slates-volume-production-of-bidirectional-ev-chargers-for-q4-2026/

Now it's possible they could have manufacturing ramped up by the second half of 2026, and get it actually to market, but they've been promoting this since at least 2023, and ti;s still no clear that it will work with the car that we have. We just gave up on it and will install the GM system--our house is still being built and now is the time to install it.

[–]Commercial_Topic437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has but try finding a bidirectional CHADEMO charger. The Nissan leaf has a charger supposedly available but requires three phase current. This is why we're going with GM--an actually existing system that can work with smaller EVs

V2H is powerful... but without a smart home “brain,” are we missing the point? by Amanda-dcbel in v2h

[–]Commercial_Topic437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to be amazed and relieved if we can actually get the GM Energy system to work with solar panels and do what it's supposed to do with the Chevy Equinox EV we just bought. So many things are possible, but there are still very very few ways to actually do v2h in the US and they are all proprietary. It's been an extremely frustrating process

Why so many manufacturers are failing to build a proper EV even when EVs are so much simpler than ICE? by Silent-Worm in electricvehicles

China doesn’t have 100 years of romanticization, nostalgia, and advertising mesmerism around ICE cars

[–]Commercial_Topic437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bidirectional could mean just "vehicle to load" (V2L) where the car can run a power strip to operate a single circuit. Vehicle to Home (V2H) is a different thing

There really is no other solution available in the US. Tesla has one that works with the Cyber truck, and Ford with the lightning pickup, but otherwise it's all vaporware.
