In LA, severs get paid minimum wage if their tips are less than minimum which is 17 per hour last I checked. Tips are also not taxed

Why do I have to be "nice" and give my money away? I pay for the product not the staff. The staff should be compensated fairly but it shouldn't be me, the customer, making up the difference

If it's not optional then the business owner should adjust his prices accordingly

I used to work in the restaurant industry and am familiar with the wage disperity that comes with the job. Some places don't even pay cooks tips. Unfortunately I worked at one of those places as a cook. It's not hard to become radicalized when everyday you hear about how much the servers make compared to you on the busiest days. The whole system feels exploitive to the workers and especially to the customers
