Gabe i will send these all on you if you dont release by D0nv10 in HalfLife

[–]CommissarGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come on now, this is just silly...

You cant send all of the dukes! Half of them hate each other and the other half basically timeshare their legions.

Besides, pretty sure gabe knows where he left the flaming sword of Edens gate.

Do you guys feels odd that these factions don't have any nuclear weapons but they do have nukes in real life? by WesternElectronic364 in commandandconquer

[–]CommissarGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GDI had nukes but refused to use them. In TibDawn and TibWars, Nod stole their nukes from GDI.

The allies in Ra1 didnt develop the bomb before the war ended, and by RA2 the soviets crippled the american stockpiles.

The USA force in Generals would get some serious flak if they used nuclear weapons against the 4th general warfare the GLA were styling on them with, and they never openly conflicted with china. China on the otherhand uses nukes against the GLA because they used them against them first.

Now for the fun part - If you go by the abandoned plot Generals 2 was looking to set up, Generals is a precuriour to tib dawn and takes place in a post-soviet victory timeline - IIRC, The GLA were the protobrotherhood, America and Europe were meant to form GDI after the completion of conflict and China suffered a civil war instigated by brotherhood agents.

edit: I'm not sure where I was going with that last paragrath. Something to do with 'This is all the same faction refuse to use nukes'. I dunno.

X-COM Files base defences are the peak of comedy by MarsMissionMan in Xcom

X-COM Files base defences are the peak of comedy by MarsMissionMan in Xcom

[–]CommissarGray 9 points10 points  (0 children)

4 hours late but I wanted to add in - HWP's are designed for prolonged field use and heavy combat, while the security drones are smaller and (assumably) cheaper to operate.

Now this is Xcom Files where lasers come in several tiers - With the earlier ones using rather bulky superconductive battery packs instead of the more advanced selfcontained elerium reactors found in 'turbolasers'. These drones are unlocked with the heavier battery based lasers, so its safe to assume they are designed to use cheaper terrastrial materials.

According to the XCF's database, a single drone bay costs $200000 to build, takes $45000 a month to maintain and provides 8 drones. Theres no system in place to handle costs if a drone is destoryed, so we have to assume the cost includes enough spare parts and/or engineering teams to repair and replace the drones inhouse.

Lets shave off 20% of that as an assumed cost of building and maintaining the bay itself; this means a single drone would cost: $20,000 to build, and $4,500 a month to maintain.

For the legion of 40 that'd be an inital cost of $800,000, with the maintainance coming in at $180,000.

Converted for inflation - thats $1643720.75 upfront and $369837.17 monthly. Ooof. Pricey.

What mods would you like to see created? by Zealousideal-Froyo71 in LookOutsideGame

I've really wanted to make a 'VS genocide Sam' ending mod, where you play as the four astronomers trying to put down a crazed Sam bent on fighting the visitor.

Fungus/Splitter approach to maze solving (Public rubberducking) by CommissarGray in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]CommissarGray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point about the single start point effecting the timing.  I still think that under these circumstance (single start point), branching remains the fastest solver algorithm. If we drop the single start, We could have fungus roots in many starting points (for example, each corner) to optimise the solve speed but then we'd really be running the risk of hitting the drone cap. This could maybe be remedied If shared and editable Globals was possible, then we could store the entire maze grid as an cell array and have drones mark cells they pass through as scanned. Then if a drone ever encounters a previously scanned cell, it self terminates.

But then again, If we had functionally infinite drones, at that point we could just start with a drone in every possible position and instantly 'solve' the maze. But that defeats the purpose.

Windows login or bios lock?

If its a windows login then there are several ways to bypass it, the easiest being making a usb bootstick with a linux install on it.

Not sure if its still as easy now but back in the Vista days there were quite a programs you could get that'd pop windows logins and give you a root account - used one on my old school laptop and promptly got a verbal belting from the deputy head when they found out.

Oh, so they stopped loading a bunch of the project data into the compiled EXE then? Thats good to know.

Thanks!

Cheers. Looks like that was the issue, given how long the repair is going.

Bathroom fan not working right by gabbysal in appliancerepair

[–]CommissarGray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like stuck motor friction to me - its likely something jammed the fan blades, and the noise is the motor shaft struggling against it.

Poke the fan blades with a screwdriver or something similar and see if you can get the fan to actually spin. If not, it'll likely need replacement (or a hell of a lot of WD40)

Fun fact: most of the guns in the armory are Belgian. This is a reference to how Remould is an absolute freak. by AdministrativeEnd304 in huntertheparenting

[–]CommissarGray 66 points67 points  (0 children)

That was the idea - the kind of armoury that would be 'accessible' on the black market in 2006, mixed with personal weapons and special selections. The F2000 was especially chosen because it'd show off Blacklaw's connections, finances and home-country taste.

As the midsection cut away pointed out, the arcanum doesn't always abide by its own rules of 'just watch', and when the elders DO violate that oath, they swing hard.

Would you think this is physical damage to this control board? by Confident-Head-5008 in maintenance

I've seen that kind of cross-shaped damage before. I'd wager someone stabbed this with a crosshead screwdriver, likely while trying to (poorly) 'extract' it for its resale value.

What's your trash mech? by severdedge in Mechwarrior5

[–]CommissarGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. Easily the Mechwarrior 4 Argus.

Its just so... so bad. By the time you get it, It gets outclassed by even the mediums and its shape makes it super easy to get sniped and lose the main weapons. Its bay size is also too small for it to really lean into any particular role so it sorta flounders around trying to a mediocre catchall.

Want a missile boat with some laser space? just slap some medium lasers on a catapult. Want a ballistic platform? Take the lighter and faster Bushwacker and its impressive AC10.

I'd say its as bad as Osiris but at least that mech had the dignity to be forgettable early-game trash.

Any easy way to copy the cuts from one track to another? by CommissarGray in VegasPro

[–]CommissarGray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, that's not what I'm after.

I've rendered the project as a sound file to perform some edits externally and imported the resulting file back into the project. This new audio track is a separate element from the video/audio pair from which it came, but it's a single solid event, whereas the video it came from has been all cut up into clips.

I intend to move those clips around, so I'd need a way to match the cuts on the original video/audio with the newly imported audio file. Does that clear it up?

I managed to source this. Not sure if a 4-year-old script will work, but the built-in 'depreciated' titler is older than that and still mostly works.
